The Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (MME) at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Andhra Pradesh has achieved a significant milestone by securing two prestigious awards from the Indian Institute of Metals (IIM). The accolades were presented at the 79th Annual Technical Meeting of the IIM, hosted by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad.
Honors Bestowed at IIT Hyderabad Ceremony
The IIM Core Awards for 2025 were formally handed over during a distinguished ceremony. Prof. B.S. Murty, the President of IIM and Director of IIT Hyderabad, had the honor of presenting the awards. The event was graced by the presence of notable figures including Dr. Komal Kapoor, Vice President (Non-Ferrous Division) of IIM and Chairman & CEO of the Nuclear Fuel Complex, and Dr. S.V.S. Narayana Murty, Vice President (Metal Science) of IIM and Chairman & Managing Director of Mishra Dhatu Nigam Limited (MIDHANI).
Dual Accolades for Excellence
The institute triumphed in two distinct categories, highlighting both collective and individual brilliance. The first award was the NIT Andhra Pradesh Best Student Affiliate Chapter Award, which is linked to the IIM Visakhapatnam Chapter. This honor was received by Dr. Raffi Mohammed, who serves as the faculty in-charge of the IIM Student Affiliate Chapter and also holds the position of Vice Chairman at the IIM Visakhapatnam Chapter. This award recognizes the chapter's outstanding activities and its successful efforts in boosting student membership enrolment.
The second award, the IIM Best Student Prize, was conferred upon Jayasmita K. Pradhan, a student who recently passed out in the B.Tech batch of 2021-25. This prize celebrates exemplary academic and professional promise in the field of metallurgy.
