In a landmark event for one of India's premier technical institutions, the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Kurukshetra is preparing to host its inaugural Global Alumni Day on December 20. This celebration marks a significant chapter in the institute's 62-year legacy, aiming to reconnect its vast network of graduates spread across the world.
A Historic Gathering of Distinguished Alumni
The event is poised to be a grand reunion, with an anticipated attendance of nearly 500 alumni flying in from various corners of the globe. The guest list features an impressive array of the institute's most accomplished former students, including several high-ranking officials from government services and top-tier corporate organizations.
Among the prominent personalities who have confirmed their participation are IAS officers Ankur Gupta, Amarnath, Vijay Mohan Jain, and Arun Gupta. The event will also be graced by ADGP, Punjab, Ishwar Singh, and DIG Sharad Singhal. Their presence underscores the profound impact NIT Kurukshetra graduates have had on national administration and security.
Strengthening the Global NITK Family
Professor B V Ramana Reddy, the Director of NIT Kurukshetra, emphasized the historic nature of this initiative. He described the Global Alumni Day as a first-of-its-kind event in the institute's history, revealing that special committees have been formed to ensure its success as a defining moment for NITK.
Professor Reddy highlighted the institute's impressive output, noting that since its establishment, it has produced over 40,000 graduates. Currently, the Alumni Association maintains active connections with approximately 15,000 of these alumni. The institute is actively working on strategies to expand this global network even further, fostering stronger bonds between past and present students.
Bridging Generations for Future Success
The Dean of Students' Welfare, Pratibha Aggarwal, shed light on the core objective behind the event: meaningful engagement. She stated that direct interaction between successful alumni and current students is designed to boost confidence, provide career clarity, and enhance professional exposure for the younger generation.
A key highlight of the day will be the launch of a dedicated alumni website, developed entirely by NIT Kurukshetra students. This digital platform is envisioned as a permanent hub to strengthen communication, mentorship, and collaborative opportunities within the NITK community.
Echoing this sentiment, Professor Dixit Garg, Associate Dean for Alumni Affairs, explained that this initiative is more than a reunion; it's a conduit for fostering innovation and unlocking new opportunities for students. The exchange of ideas and experiences is expected to create a powerful ecosystem for growth.
Originally founded in 1963 as the Regional Engineering College (REC) Kurukshetra, the institute was upgraded to the status of a National Institute of Technology in 2002. Today, it boasts a vibrant student body of over 6,250 students, including 50 international scholars.
The inaugural Global Alumni Day represents a transformational shift for NIT Kurukshetra. For the first time, it brings together graduates from all batches under one roof, not just to reminisce, but to actively contribute to the future of their alma mater and solidify the bonds of the global NIT Kurukshetra family.
