In a significant boost to the educational landscape of Uttar Pradesh, the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) region is poised to become a major academic hub. Several prominent institutions, including the Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS), are advancing plans to establish expansive campuses along the corridor.
NMIMS and JBM Group Kickstart Construction
The Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) is set to begin construction of its 35-acre campus along the Yamuna Expressway shortly. This marks a historic expansion for the institute, as the Yamuna City campus will be its very first located outside its home state of Maharashtra. The institute has recently cleared the crucial map approval process, paving the way for physical work to commence.
Officials from YEIDA confirmed that the JBM Group has also initiated work on its own educational campus within the developing Yamuna City zone. The authority is processing proposals from five other institutions seeking land in the area, indicating a strong pipeline of future projects. Currently, the expressway corridor already hosts two universities and one medical college that are fully operational.
Sharda Trust's Mega Rs 5,000 Crore Proposal
One of the most ambitious plans submitted is from the Sharda Educational Trust, which operates Sharda University. The trust has put forward a large-scale, multi-faceted proposal requiring approximately 100 acres of land. The blueprint includes allocating 50 acres for campuses of 10 international universities, creating a unique global education enclave.
The proposal also earmarks 10 acres for a multi-speciality hospital and an attached medical school, and another 10 acres for a dedicated start-up, innovation, and research centre. The trust seeks additional land for allied facilities such as a 5-star hotel, a hotel management school, residential infrastructure, an International Baccalaureate (IB) school, and comprehensive sports facilities. With an estimated total investment of around Rs 5,000 crore, this project leverages the trust's existing presence in Greater Noida, where it already runs a higher education institution and a multi-speciality wellness hospital.
SIMATS Plans Integrated University on 250 Acres
Adding to the flurry of activity, the Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences (SIMATS) has applied for a substantial parcel of about 250 acres to establish a large, integrated university campus. The proposed institution aims to offer a wide array of programmes spanning diverse fields.
The academic portfolio would include medicine, dentistry, engineering, law, management, nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, physical education, pharmacy, architecture, design, allied health sciences, liberal arts, and hospitality. SIMATS formalized its intent by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Invest UP during the Uttar Pradesh Global Investors Summit held in 2023.
The convergence of these major educational projects underscores a strategic shift, positioning the Yamuna Expressway region as a premier destination for higher education and research, attracting massive investments and promising significant infrastructural and economic development for the state.
