The Odisha University of Technology and Research (OUTR) in Bhubaneswar is embarking on a major initiative to significantly boost its research and training capabilities. The university has announced plans to establish two new Centres of Excellence (CoEs), one dedicated to design and the other to artificial intelligence and robotics, with a target to make them fully operational by next March.
A Deep Dive into the Design Centre of Excellence
According to Vice-Chancellor Bibhuti Bhusan Biswal, the university is deeply committed to equipping both students and working professionals with advanced, industry-relevant skills. The centre of excellence for design will concentrate on creating innovative designs for a wide spectrum of products, ranging from industrial applications like automobiles and refrigeration systems to everyday domestic items.
The facility will house a 40-seater laboratory that is designed to guide participants through the entire product development lifecycle. This comprehensive learning experience will take individuals from the initial concept stage all the way to the final design validation. This centre is envisioned as a collaborative hub, bringing together students, educators, industry experts, researchers, and interns to foster a vibrant environment for design innovation.
"We have already acquired the necessary software for the design CoE," confirmed Biswal. He emphasized the critical role of design, stating, "Design is the backbone of production for both industrial and domestic products and this centre will play a crucial role in shaping the future of product development."
Focus on AI, Robotics, and International Collaboration
The second Centre of Excellence will focus on the rapidly evolving fields of artificial intelligence and robotics. This centre will provide specialized training on the application of these technologies across diverse sectors, including manufacturing and education.
A significant boost to this initiative comes from a strategic collaboration with a Japanese company. This partnership will not only assist OUTR in setting up the advanced CoE but will also extend support with job placements for the participants. This ensures that graduates are not just skilled but are also well-prepared and connected for the demands of the modern global workforce.
Positioning OUTR as a Leader in Technological Education
Vice-Chancellor Biswal highlighted the broader vision behind this substantial investment. The installation of state-of-the-art laboratories, software, and essential equipment is underway to ensure these centres meet international benchmarks.
"These CoEs represent a significant investment in the future of technology and research in Odisha," Biswal added, "positioning OUTR as a leader in educational excellence and innovation." The establishment of these centres is a clear step towards cementing the university's reputation and contributing to the region's technological advancement.
