Panjab University Welcomes New Sports Bus Through SBI's CSR Program
Panjab University in Chandigarh received a significant boost for its sports department on Monday. The university accepted a brand new 32-seater bus from the State Bank of India. This donation came through SBI's Corporate Social Responsibility initiative.
Transport Support for Student Athletes
The bus will directly serve the university's sports department. It will transport student athletes for their daily training sessions. The vehicle will also ferry teams to inter-university tournaments and national-level competitions.
University officials expressed particular enthusiasm about this development. They confirmed this marks the first time the sports department has received a vehicle through a CSR initiative.
Formal Handover Ceremony on Campus
The key handover ceremony took place on the Panjab University campus. SBI's Managing Director for Retail Business and Operations, Rama Mohan Rao Amara, presented the keys. Krishan Sharma, Chief General Manager of SBI's Chandigarh Circle, also participated in the ceremony.
Panjab University Vice-Chancellor Renu Vig accepted the bus on behalf of the institution. She emphasized how this facility will directly benefit student athletes. Professor Vig noted the bus will aid their preparation for competitions at various levels.
Strong Sports Tradition at Panjab University
Professor Vig highlighted the university's strong sports performance record. Panjab University sportspersons have consistently excelled in inter-university events. They have also performed well in national and international competitions.
Several university officials attended the ceremony alongside the vice-chancellor. Registrar YP Verma participated in the event. Secretary to the Vice-Chancellor Krishan Saluja was also present. Director of Sports Rakesh Malik joined the gathering as well.
The new bus represents a tangible commitment to supporting student athletes. It addresses practical transportation needs that previously challenged the sports department. This CSR initiative demonstrates how corporate partnerships can directly enhance university sports programs.
