Panjab University Hosts National Seminar on Guru Ravidas's Vision of Begumpura
The Department of Hindi at Panjab University in Chandigarh successfully organized a comprehensive one-day national seminar on Sunday, dedicated to exploring the profound concept of 'Begumpura: Devotion, Philosophy and the Dream of Equality.' This significant academic event delved deeply into the philosophical, devotional, and socio-ethical dimensions of Begumpura as articulated in the thought of the revered saint Guru Ravidas.
Inaugural Session Highlights Contemporary Relevance
In the inaugural session, Ashok Kumar, the head of the department and seminar convener, delivered an insightful address on the contemporary relevance of the theme, emphasizing its importance in today's societal context. Santosh Sharma further enriched the discussion by highlighting the deep-rooted social consciousness embedded within the broader Sant tradition of India.
Chief guest Meera Gautam eloquently described Begumpura as an ideal society fundamentally rooted in the principles of social justice and equality, drawing connections to modern aspirations for a fairer world. The keynote speaker, Krishna Kumar Kaushik, provided a detailed analysis of the democratic elements inherent in the Bhakti movement, illustrating how these historical spiritual practices continue to inspire egalitarian values.
