Panjab University in Chandigarh has kicked off a vibrant celebration of flowers with the inauguration of its 16th Chrysanthemum Exhibition. The five-day floral spectacle opened its doors to the public on Tuesday at the picturesque Prof RC Paul Rose Garden in Sector 14.
University Leadership Inaugurates Floral Event
The exhibition was formally inaugurated by the university's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Renu Vig, marking a significant annual event for the institution and the city. The function was presided over by Dean of University Instruction, Professor Yojna Rawat, with Registrar Professor YP Verma attending as the guest of honour. The event saw a strong turnout from the university community, including faculty, staff, students, hostel wardens, and alumni.
A Dazzling Display of Floral Diversity
Visitors are treated to a stunning visual feast of approximately 4,200 potted chrysanthemum plants, featuring a wide array of varieties. The display includes captivating types such as Yellow Charm, Kundan, Maghi Orange, and Yellow Reflex. To ensure diversity and quality, the university's horticulture division procured some of these plants from other renowned floral centres in India, specifically Kolkata and Solan.
Showcasing Horticultural Excellence and Green Goals
Organised by the university's dedicated horticulture division, the exhibition serves a dual purpose. Primarily, it aims to showcase the division's annual floral work and horticultural expertise. Secondly, and equally importantly, the event is designed to highlight crucial environmental awareness among students and the wider community. The organisers emphasised that all the plants on display were grown and meticulously maintained within the university's own facilities, underscoring a commitment to sustainable campus gardening practices.
This exhibition not only adds a splash of colour to Chandigarh's cultural calendar but also stands as a testament to Panjab University's ongoing engagement with nature, beauty, and ecological education.
