Patliputra University to Relocate to New 'Nitish Nagar' Campus in August
Patliputra University (PPU) is poised to transition to its expansive new campus, designated as 'Nitish Nagar', situated in Bakhtiyarpur on the outskirts of Patna. This significant move is scheduled for August, marking a pivotal moment eight years after the university's establishment and following an extended period of anticipation. The relocation is strategically designed to broaden the institution's academic and administrative capabilities, addressing long-standing needs for expansion.
Modern Infrastructure and Development Costs
The new campus encompasses a substantial 10-acre plot, with development underway at an estimated investment of Rs 246 crore. This funding is allocated to create state-of-the-art infrastructure that promises to elevate the educational experience for both students and faculty members. Upon becoming operational, the campus will not only provide enhanced facilities for current enrollees but also position the university to qualify for recognition under the University Grants Commission's (UGC) 12(B) clause.
Currently, Patliputra University holds recognition under the UGC's 2(f) clause. According to Vice Chancellor Prof Upendra Prasad Singh, the transition to the new campus will enable the institution to apply for crucial grants from the UGC and the central government, thereby unlocking new avenues for financial support and academic growth.
Detailed Campus Layout and Facilities
The architectural plan for the new campus includes two primary G+9 structures. The administrative block will house distinct sections such as separate administrative offices, a meeting hall, registration office, finance and budget departments, dedicated floors for the vice chancellor and pro vice chancellor, a VIP lounge, examination section, and an evaluation room. This design aims to streamline administrative processes and improve operational efficiency.
Similarly, the academic block, also a G+9 building, will feature six examination halls, three invigilator rooms, four reading rooms, a computer room, and specialized classrooms for postgraduate students across arts, science, and commerce disciplines. Additionally, it will include a cutting-edge library, a faculty area with seven cabins, dedicated rooms for heads of departments, as well as conference and tutorial rooms. Prof Singh emphasized that these facilities are tailored to support advanced learning and research activities.
Additional Amenities and Future Prospects
PPU Registrar Abu Bakar highlighted further amenities, such as a modern conference hall and an indoor games complex. A G+2 building will accommodate the proctor's office, admission office, security rooms, and seating space for 500 individuals. The indoor games building, also G+2, will offer a badminton court, yoga hall, changing rooms, storage area, cafeteria, and kitchen, promoting a holistic campus environment.
Bakar noted that the new campus is expected to better accommodate the increasing number of students and faculty members, while also setting the stage for further academic and infrastructural advancements. This relocation represents a strategic step towards enhancing the university's stature and operational capacity in the region.
