Jharkhand Governor Appoints Prof D K Singh as DSPMU In-Charge VC Amid Delays
Prof D K Singh Gets Additional Charge of DSPMU as VC Appointments Delayed

The appointment of regular vice-chancellors for four state universities in Jharkhand has hit a roadblock, leading to a temporary administrative arrangement. On Thursday, the Governor's office stepped in to issue a notification granting Professor D K Singh the additional charge of Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University (DSPMU) in Ranchi.

A Stop-Gap Measure Amidst Delays

This move is seen as a necessary interim solution. An official from Lok Bhawan clarified that this is purely a stop-gap arrangement. The official further assured that the process for appointing permanent vice-chancellors for the four affected universities is underway and is expected to be finalized within the next 15 to 20 days. Until then, the in-charge VCs will only oversee routine administrative functions.

Professor Singh's Expanding Responsibilities

Professor D K Singh, who is already the full-time Vice Chancellor of the Jharkhand University of Technology, will now shoulder the responsibility of a third institution. He has been holding the additional charge of Ranchi University (RU) and now adds DSPMU to his portfolio. This consolidation of roles highlights the administrative vacuum created by the delayed appointments.

Which Universities Await Permanent VCs?

The Governor had initiated the appointment process for vice-chancellors at four key universities in the state. The institutions awaiting permanent leadership are:

  • Ranchi University (RU)
  • Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University (DSPMU)
  • Jharkhand State Open University
  • Jamshedpur Women’s University

The delay in finalizing these crucial academic leadership positions has necessitated the current temporary measures to ensure the smooth day-to-day functioning of these universities.
