SGSITS Civil Engineering Department Completes NBA Accreditation Review
The civil engineering department at the Shri Govindram Seksaria Institute of Technology and Science (SGSITS) in Indore has successfully concluded a comprehensive three-day review by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA). This evaluation, which wrapped up on Sunday, involved a detailed assessment of the department's academic and operational frameworks to ensure compliance with national quality standards.
In-Depth Evaluation of Academic and Infrastructure Elements
A three-member expert team from the NBA conducted the review from February 20 to 22, meticulously examining various critical aspects of the department. The focus areas included curriculum design, laboratory infrastructure, research output, and the implementation of outcome-based education systems. Faculty members actively participated by delivering detailed presentations on course delivery methodologies and student performance metrics, providing a transparent view of the educational processes.
Additionally, the panel reviewed extensive records related to student placements and industry engagement, highlighting the department's efforts to bridge academic learning with real-world applications. This thorough scrutiny aimed to verify that the civil engineering programme meets the rigorous standards set by the NBA for engineering education in India.
Stakeholder Feedback and Departmental Strengths
During the review, the NBA panel engaged with a diverse group of stakeholders, including current students, alumni, parents, and recruiters. These interactions provided valuable feedback on teaching standards, practical exposure, and overall educational quality. Discussions emphasized the department's steady strengths, such as robust alumni involvement and consistent academic mentoring, which have been instrumental in fostering a supportive learning environment.
In-charge director Professor SM Narulkar commented on the process, stating that the institute now awaits the NBA's formal recommendation. He noted, "As per NBA norms, the recommendation is expected within approximately three months." This period allows the accreditation body to finalize its assessment and provide guidance on any necessary improvements.
Background on SGSITS Accreditation and Future Priorities
Last year, SGSITS achieved NBA accreditation for several of its engineering programmes, including electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, information technology, electronics and instrumentation engineering, and electronics and telecommunication engineering. These accreditations were granted under outcome-based quality standards, aligning with the Washington Accord, which facilitates international equivalence for engineering degrees and enhances global recognition for graduates.
As the civil engineering department awaits the panel's final decision, the institute has reiterated its commitment to continuous academic refinement and stronger industry linkages. These priorities are part of SGSITS's broader strategy to maintain high educational standards and prepare students for successful careers in engineering. The outcome of this review will play a crucial role in shaping the future direction of the civil engineering programme at the institute.
