University of Rajasthan Starts Strong in National Handball Championship

The University of Rajasthan launched their campaign with an emphatic victory on the opening day of the All India Inter-University Handball Men tournament. The event, hosted at the University Sports Complex in Jaipur, witnessed the home team deliver a commanding performance that set the tone for the five-day competition.

Dominant Display by Hosts

From the very beginning, the University of Rajasthan established control over their match against LN Mithila University. The hosts secured a comprehensive 45-26 win in what proved to be a one-sided encounter. By halftime, they had built a substantial 26-14 lead that they maintained throughout the second half.

Mohit emerged as the standout performer, leading the scoring with an impressive ten goals. He received valuable support from Ashish, who contributed six goals, while Sumit and Devendra each added five goals to the tally. For the visiting LN Mithila University, Deepak Kumar fought valiantly as the lone warrior, managing to score seven goals despite his team's overall struggle.

The opening day featured several competitive matches across the tournament:

  • LPU, Phagwara secured a convincing 16-goal victory over VBS, Purbanchal
  • UEM Jaipur demonstrated superiority with an 11-goal win against Manipur University
  • VIT Vellore delivered a strong performance to defeat GNDU, Amritsar
  • KAHE, Coimbatore emerged victorious over LNIPE Gwalior by a margin of six goals
  • Annamalai University, Chidambaram claimed a four-goal win against HP University

In one of the day's most thrilling contests, Saurashtra University, Rajkot managed to edge past Periyar University by a solitary goal in a closely fought battle. The final match of the day saw Punjab University, Patiala prevail over UOS and Technology, Meghalaya with a 38-24 scoreline.

Tournament Inauguration and Organization

The prestigious tournament was inaugurated by distinguished personalities from the sports world. The ceremony featured Dr Satyendra Singh Lohiya, a para swimmer and Padmashree awardee, alongside Gopal Saini, a former Olympian and Arjuna award recipient. University Vice-Chancellor Prof Alpana Kateja also participated in the opening ceremonies.

The organizing committee included Dr Pratibha Singh Ratnu as organizing secretary, Kuldeep Dhankar as secretary of the sports board, and Subrat Saini as tournament technical director. Harish B Raba served as the AIU observer for the event. S L Pareek conducted the proceedings efficiently, while Pramod Singh delivered the vote of thanks.

The University of Rajasthan Sports Board has organized this five-day championship, which brings together sixteen of the nation's top university handball teams. The tournament promises exciting competition as these elite squads vie for national supremacy in university handball.
