WBNUJS Convocation for Five Batches This Sunday

Kolkata prepares for a significant academic event this Sunday. The West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences will finally conduct its 15th convocation ceremony. This long-awaited event will see around 1,050 students receive their hard-earned degrees.

Graduates from Five Batches to Get Degrees

The university plans to award degrees to graduates from the 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025 batches. All these students have been waiting for their formal graduation certificates. The convocation will take place at the Dhono Dhanyo Auditorium on Sunday.

High-Profile Dignitaries to Attend

Chief Justice of India Surya Kant will attend the ceremony. He serves as the chancellor of NUJS. The chief guest for the event will be Ranbir Singh. Singh chairs the central Criminal Law Reforms Committee. He also founded NALSAR in Hyderabad and NLU in Delhi.

Addressing a Prolonged Delay

WBNUJS last held its convocation in 2022. At that time, only the 2020 batch received their degrees. The university's Vice Chancellor, Nandimath Omprakash V, acknowledged the unusual delay. He noted that convocations are regular calendar events at other institutes.

Nandimath took charge on November 3. He received over 200 emails from concerned students. These graduates highlighted practical difficulties they faced without their official degrees. Many struggled with provisional certificates at workplaces. Others encountered issues while applying for higher studies abroad.

"Holding the convocation became my top priority after hearing from these students," Nandimath stated. "I am hopeful we can turn a fresh leaf and make this a regular calendar event going forward."

Chancellor's Support and Logistics

The Vice Chancellor praised Chancellor Surya Kant for his sensitivity and foresight. The Chief Justice responded promptly to their request. He provided the January 18 date for the convocation.

"The challenge now is to conduct the convocation in a befitting way for all five batches," Nandimath emphasized. The university expects the main auditorium to reach full capacity. They have arranged additional halls where attendees can watch the event live.

The ceremony will also be live-streamed on YouTube. This allows family members and well-wishers to participate virtually from anywhere.

Significance for Graduates

This convocation marks a crucial milestone for the affected graduates. They can now obtain their official degrees after years of waiting. The event promises to bring closure and recognition to their academic journeys.

The university community looks forward to celebrating this achievement together. Sunday's ceremony represents both a resolution of past delays and a commitment to timely future convocations.
