CSK HPKV Scientist Honoured with Prestigious Vegetable Research Award in Hyderabad
Professor Akhilesh Sharma, a distinguished academic from Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya (CSK HPKV), has been conferred the esteemed Dr Biswajeet Chaudhary Memorial Award for his exceptional work as an Outstanding Vegetable Research Scientist. The award ceremony took place during the group meeting of the All India Coordinated Research Project on Vegetable Crops, held at Sri Konda Laxman Telangana Horticultural University in Hyderabad.

The Vice-Chancellor of CSK HPKV extended heartfelt congratulations to Prof Sharma, lauding his significant contributions to vegetable research, innovation, and human resource development. The recognition not only brings immense pride to the university but also underscores its unwavering commitment to excellence in agricultural research and education.
Prof Sharma's Groundbreaking Contributions
Prof Sharma, who serves as a Professor of Vegetable Science, has been instrumental in advancing vegetable crop improvement for both farmers and academia. His notable achievements include:
- Development of 27 vegetable varieties and hybrids, encompassing crops such as pea, chilli, cauliflower, fenugreek, parthenocarpic cucumber, tomato, and cherry tomato.
- Commercialisation of his technologies through licensing agreements with 17 seed companies, facilitating broader outreach and adoption among agricultural communities.
- Contribution to the development of Distinctness, Uniformity, and Stability (DUS) guidelines for chilli, paprika, and bell pepper under protected conditions.
- Inclusion of four of his vegetable production technologies in the official Package of Practices (POP), enhancing standardised agricultural methods.
