Varanasi Railway Finance Team Wins 5S Leadership Award for Excellence
Varanasi Railway Finance Wins 5S Leadership Award

The finance and accounts department of the Varanasi Division, North Eastern Railway, has achieved a significant milestone by receiving the distinguished 5S Leadership Award. This honor recognizes their exceptional contributions and efficient management in enhancing workplace standards, cleanliness, discipline, and continuous quality improvement.

Honoring Excellence in Workplace Management

On the occasion of the New Year, the award was jointly presented to Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Ashish Jain and Senior Divisional Finance Manager Rajesh Kumar. The ceremony was graced by Vijay Krishna, Director of the Quality Circle Forum organisation, and Arunmay Chakravarti, the organisation's Secretary. This accolade follows a recommendation made at the national convention of the Quality Circle of India, which was held in Greater Noida.

A Legacy of Quality Recognition

This is not the first time the department's efforts have been celebrated. In October 2025, the same finance department was already the recipient of the 5S Golden Trophy and a certificate from the Quality Circle Forum of India. The latest Leadership Award further cements their commitment to operational excellence and sets a benchmark for other departments.

The Power of the 5S System

Speaking at the award ceremony, DRM Ashish Jain credited the achievement to the efficient leadership of the senior divisional finance manager and the relentless hard work of all employees. He elaborated on the transformative impact of the 5S workplace management system.

The 5S system is designed to automate office operations, creating a clean, organized, and aesthetically pleasing work environment. Jain highlighted a remarkable benefit: "By implementing 5S, we can better organize our work area in less time and have the capability to retrieve any file within just 60 seconds."

He further explained that the core philosophy of 5S management teaches the essential skill of discerning what to remove and what to retain in the workspace, and determining the optimal timing for such decisions. This systematic approach eliminates clutter, streamlines processes, and fosters a culture of sustained efficiency and discipline within the office.
