Dumka: A 14-year-old tribal girl from Jamtara district is seven months pregnant after being allegedly sexually exploited by a 17-year-old boy from her community on the pretext of marriage. The accused has been sent to the Observation Centre in Dumka following the registration of an FIR in Jamtara district on Wednesday, according to police.
Details of the Incident
The survivor was lured into a relationship by the accused, who hails from an adjoining village, under the false promise of marriage. The boy allegedly sexually abused her repeatedly. When the pregnancy was discovered a few days ago, the girl's family approached the boy and asked him to marry her, but he refused, said an officer quoting the complaint lodged by the survivor's mother.
Legal Action Taken
An FIR was registered against the accused minor boy in Jamtara district under Section 65(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 4 and 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The survivor was sent to Jamtara Sadar Hospital for a medical examination. Further medicolegal proceedings will be initiated based on the court's directions, police added.
The case highlights the vulnerability of tribal girls in the region, where child marriage and sexual exploitation remain pressing issues. Authorities are investigating the matter thoroughly to ensure justice for the survivor.
