Shabana Azmi Recalls Charming Courtship Anecdotes

In a delightful throwback shared previously, Shabana Azmi offered a glimpse into the simple yet profound moment that captured her heart during their courtship. As they were driving past a florist, Shabana expressed admiration for the beautiful blooms. In a grand romantic gesture, Javed Akhtar immediately stopped the car and purchased the entire shop's inventory of flowers.

"So he has busted the myth," Shabana humorously noted. "In case any of you think that because he writes so many romantic songs, he must be a romantic husband—there is not a romantic bone in his body. There is nothing like that, it just happened once." She elaborated, "This was during our courtship days and we were passing by a florist. I told him the flowers were so beautiful, and he stopped the car and bought the entire shop. I just fell head over heels for him."

Shabana also reminisced about her mother's initial reservations, revealing, "Later, when we were not talking to each other, he sent me a poem. After reading the poem, my mom said, 'Mat phaso, a poet always traps you with his words. Isse dur raho' (Don't get caught, stay away from him)." Despite the warning, the couple's bond only grew stronger.

A Lasting Union in the Spotlight

Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi tied the knot on December 9, 1984, in a union that has since become one of Bollywood's most enduring and respected partnerships. This marriage marked Javed's second, following his previous marriage to screenwriter Honey Irani, with whom he shares two celebrated children, filmmaker Farhan Akhtar and director Zoya Akhtar. Their Holi party not only celebrated the festival of colors but also subtly honored their own long-standing journey together, surrounded by friends and colleagues from the film fraternity.
