Security Breach at Anushka-Virat Wedding: Gatecrasher Posed as Maharaja
The 2017 wedding of Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma and cricket icon Virat Kohli in Tuscany, Italy, remains one of the most iconic and talked-about celebrity unions of the decade. Despite being an intimate affair with only about 40 close friends and family members in attendance, the event was meticulously planned to ensure privacy and exclusivity. However, a startling security breach recently came to light, revealing how an unexpected intruder managed to slip through the tight security net, almost mirroring a scene from a Bollywood film.
The Grand Entry of the Gatecrasher
In a recent interview with Hindi Rush, Yaseen Khan, the founder of the security agency hired for the wedding, disclosed the details of this alarming incident. According to Khan, the gatecrasher arrived in a BMW, dressed exactly like a maharaja, and was accompanied by two bouncers in a Safari vehicle. This grand entrance immediately caught the attention of the security team, but confusion ensued due to the event staff's inexperience.
"My supervisor had a doubt, so he flagged it to the event management team," Khan explained. "However, the event staff, mostly young trainees, were convinced the man was a legitimate guest because of his luxurious car and regal attire. As a result, he was allowed inside without proper verification."
Suspicious Behavior and Investigation
Once inside, the intruder's behavior raised red flags. Instead of mingling with other guests, he stayed in a corner, with his security guards clicking pictures of him with celebrities before retreating. Khan, who was on the main floor where the wedding ceremony was taking place, grew suspicious and decided to investigate further.
The man claimed to be the nephew of a prominent invitee who could not attend the Italy ceremony. To verify this, Khan approached Virat Kohli's manager, who confirmed that the alleged relative was only invited to the Delhi wedding reception, not the Italy event. Armed with this information, Khan confronted the gatecrasher.
"I went back to the gatecrasher and told him only invited guests are allowed," Khan recalled. "He threw some attitude before making his way out, but thankfully, the situation was resolved without further incident."
Comparison to Other High-Profile Weddings
Khan also shared insights into another challenging celebrity wedding: the celebrations of Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh. After their Lake Como ceremony, the couple hosted a grand reception in Mumbai that attracted massive crowds, including hundreds of media personnel and fans. A coordination lapse with the event team led to chaos when the crowd was mistakenly directed toward the wrong exit.
"It became very tough. There were just 20 security guards," Khan said. "The pressure from the public was overwhelming. They shoved me so hard that my hand turned numb, and I later found out my shoulder had gotten dislocated."
Legacy of the Anushka-Virat Wedding
Despite this security scare, Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli's wedding continues to be celebrated by fans worldwide. Videos and pictures from their big day still circulate on social media, with many considering it a benchmark for elegance and intimacy in celebrity weddings. The couple's decision to keep the guest list small and the location private added to the allure, making it one of the most tightly guarded affairs in recent memory.
This revelation underscores the immense challenges faced by security teams at high-profile events, where the line between glamour and vulnerability can be thin. It also highlights the importance of thorough verification processes, even in the most exclusive settings.
