Archana Puran Singh Opens Up About Film Career Sacrifices for Kapil Sharma Show
Archana Puran Singh, a well-known television personality celebrated for her roles in Comedy Circus and The Kapil Sharma Show, has recently shared insights into how her extensive involvement in the latter has significantly impacted her opportunities in the film industry. In a candid interview with News 18, she expressed regret over missing numerous acting roles due to her demanding schedule on the popular comedy show.
Hectic Shooting Schedule Limited Film Projects
During the conversation, Singh elaborated on the challenges posed by her rigorous filming commitments. "I haven’t been able to work in films for all these years," she stated, highlighting a specific instance where she received an offer requiring a 25-day shoot in Scotland. However, she had to decline because it conflicted with her obligations to The Kapil Sharma Show. "But it wasn’t possible for me to leave the shoot of Kapil’s show and film elsewhere," she explained, noting that during the show's earlier TV broadcast, they filmed approximately a hundred episodes annually, leaving little room for other ventures.
Impact on Filmmaker Perceptions and Role Offers
Singh further revealed that her repeated rejections led to a decline in film offers over time. "And since I’ve said no so many times, people stopped approaching me for acting assignments," she lamented. She also addressed how her role as a replacement for Navjot Singh Sidhu in 2019, while boosting her visibility, altered how filmmakers viewed her. "No matter how much I try, I’m not being able to convince filmmakers. Nobody is offering me roles. They aren’t very convinced that I’m an actor. They still think that I’m somebody who sits on a chair and laughs," she expressed with disappointment, referring to her on-screen persona as a laughing judge.
Hope for a More Flexible Future with Netflix Transition
Looking ahead, Singh expressed optimism about her career prospects, particularly with the shift of The Great Indian Kapil Show to Netflix, which now operates on a season-wise filming schedule. "Now we shoot for it on a season-to-season basis. As a result, I don’t have the commitment to be in India for the whole year. I can now travel and shoot for other projects. This is why I’m very happy that the show now runs on Netflix," she concluded, hopeful that this change will allow her to pursue more diverse acting opportunities and reshape industry perceptions.
