Ariana Grande Tests Positive for COVID During 'Wicked' Promotions
Ariana Grande Tests Positive for COVID-19

In a setback for the ongoing promotional activities for the highly anticipated film 'Wicked: For Good', its lead actress and global pop sensation, Ariana Grande, has tested positive for COVID-19. The news was confirmed by the singer herself through a social media post, casting a shadow over the final leg of the film's marketing campaign.

Positive Test and Missed Appearances

Ariana Grande shared the news of her diagnosis on her Instagram story, posting a picture from her recent appearance on 'The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon'. She captioned the image with a poignant message, "Moments before Covid," indicating that she fell ill shortly after the taping. This development occurred just days after she was notably absent from interview duties at the New York premiere of her film, 'Wicked: For Good'.

The positive test has immediate professional consequences. According to trade publication Variety, Ariana Grande has been forced to cancel a pre-recorded appearance on 'The Kelly Clarkson Show'. Furthermore, she is expected to miss several scheduled Q&A sessions in the coming days, crucial events for engaging with fans and media ahead of the film's release.

History of COVID on the 'Wicked' Set

This is not the first time the 'Wicked' set has been impacted by the virus. Interestingly, both Grande and her co-star, Cynthia Erivo, had previously contracted COVID-19 at different times during the filming of the first 'Wicked' movie. Cynthia Erivo tested positive just days before she was scheduled to film the iconic song 'Defying Gravity', while Ariana Grande received her diagnosis shortly before filming her number for 'Popular'.

Adding to the current promotional challenges, Cynthia Erivo, who plays Elphaba, has also been unwell. She recently shared that she has lost her voice, though it is unclear if this is directly related to COVID-19. The simultaneous health issues of the two leads have undoubtedly complicated the final push for the film.

About 'Wicked: For Good' and Its Stars

Directed by Jon M. Chu, 'Wicked: For Good' is the second part of Universal's adaptation of the beloved Broadway musical and classic book. The film features Ariana Grande as Glinda, the Good Witch, and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, who becomes the Wicked Witch of the West.

The sequel's plot delves deeper into the characters' diverging paths. Elphaba is demonised and lives in exile, yet she remains steadfast in her mission to expose the truth about The Wizard, played by Jeff Goldblum. Meanwhile, Glinda has ascended to become the celebrated and glamorous symbol of Goodness throughout the land of Oz, residing in the opulent Emerald City palace.

Despite the current health hurdles faced by its stars, 'Wicked: For Good' is firmly scheduled to be released in theatres on November 21, promising audiences a spectacular cinematic experience.
