Activist Mir Yar Baloch has strongly criticized filmmaker Aditya Dhar's upcoming film 'Dhurandhar', stating that the Baloch community is not comprised of religious extremists. In a detailed post on X (formerly Twitter), Baloch expressed his deep disturbance over multiple scenes in the first part of the film, which he believes unfairly stereotypes the Baloch people.
Activist's Concerns
Mir Yar Baloch, a prominent voice for the Baloch community, shared his thoughts on December 5, the day the film's first part was released. He wrote that the portrayal of Baloch characters as religious extremists is both inaccurate and harmful. 'The Baloch are a diverse community with rich cultural traditions, and reducing them to extremist caricatures is deeply troubling,' he stated.
Film's Depiction Under Fire
The activist highlighted specific scenes that he found offensive, though he did not provide explicit details. He called on the filmmakers to reconsider their narrative approach and urged audiences to view the film critically. 'Such depictions can fuel prejudice and misunderstanding,' Baloch added.
'Dhurandhar,' directed by Aditya Dhar, has been anticipated as a major Bollywood release. However, the controversy has sparked debates about the responsibility of filmmakers in representing ethnic and cultural groups accurately. Baloch's post has garnered significant attention, with many users supporting his stance and calling for more nuanced storytelling.
As of now, neither Aditya Dhar nor the film's production team has responded to the criticism. The incident underscores the ongoing sensitivity around representation in Indian cinema.
