Fresh Controversy Surrounds Smriti Mandhana's Cancelled Wedding
New Delhi has become the epicenter of a brewing controversy following the cancellation of Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana's wedding with singer-composer Palaash Muchhal. The situation has escalated dramatically with serious allegations made by actor-producer Vidnyan Mane, who has accused Muchhal of infidelity and financial misconduct.
Allegations of Infidelity and Financial Coercion
Vidnyan Mane, who claims to be a childhood friend of Smriti Mandhana, has filed a formal complaint in Sangli, Maharashtra, alleging that he was cheated of more than Rs 40 lakh in connection with an unreleased film project. In a detailed interview, Mane revealed shocking details about the circumstances that led to the wedding's cancellation.
The wedding between Smriti Mandhana and Palaash Muchhal was initially scheduled for November 23, 2025. After being postponed due to health emergencies in both families, the ceremony was officially called off in December 2025. However, Mane's allegations suggest deeper issues were at play.
"I was at the wedding celebrations when he was caught red-handed with another woman in bed," Mane stated. "It was a shocking scene. He was beaten up by the Indian female cricketers present. The entire family is problematic. I thought he would get married and settle in Sangli, but it has completely backfired on me."
Financial Disputes and Legal Action
Mane further elaborated on financial coercion allegations against the Muchhal family. He claimed that after investing significant funds into a stalled film project, he was pressured to contribute additional money. "When I met his mother last month, she said the budget to release the movie had increased to ₹1.5 crore," Mane explained. "They demanded another Rs 10 lakh investment, threatening that I wouldn't get any money back otherwise. They started blackmailing me and threatened to remove me from the film, forcing me to file a complaint."
According to Mane, communication with the Muchhal family ceased entirely after the wedding cancellation. "After the wedding was called off, the family blocked me from everywhere," he said. "I discovered that other artists involved in the movie had also not received their due payments. While I've heard of directors exploiting producers in the film industry, this situation represents complete theft."
Mane asserted that he possesses substantial evidence to support his claims. "I have saved all proofs including my chats and phone conversations that I'm willing to share with the police and the media," he confirmed.
Muchhal's Response and Legal Action
Palaash Muchhal has responded firmly to these allegations through an Instagram story, denying all accusations. "In light of the allegations made by Sangli-based Vidnyan Mane on social media, I wish to state that these claims against me are entirely baseless and factually incorrect," Muchhal wrote. "They have been made with malicious intent to tarnish my reputation, and they will not go unchallenged. My lawyer, Shreyansh Mithare, is exploring all legal avenues, and this matter will be dealt with strictly through the appropriate legal channels."
Separate Statements from Both Parties
Amid widespread speculation about the reasons behind their separation, both Smriti Mandhana and Palaash Muchhal issued separate statements confirming the wedding cancellation. Smriti stated that she needed to "clarify that the wedding is called off" and requested privacy during this difficult time.
Muchhal expressed his emotional turmoil in his statement: "I have decided to move on in my life and step back from my personal relationship. It has been very difficult for me to see people react so easily on baseless rumors about something which has been most sacred to me. This is the most difficult phase of my life, and I will deal with it gracefully while holding on to my beliefs."
The controversy continues to unfold as legal proceedings begin in Maharashtra, with both parties preparing for what appears to be a protracted legal battle over the serious allegations that have surfaced in the aftermath of the cancelled wedding.
