Madras High Court Dismisses Tamannaah Bhatia's Appeal in Endorsement Row
The Madras High Court on Thursday refused to accept the appeal filed by actress Tamannaah Bhatia, effectively upholding an earlier order that had dismissed her plea. A division bench of the court stated it would not alter the previous decision, thereby reinforcing the single judge's ruling and closing the legal matter.
Dispute Over Expired Endorsement Agreement
According to reports, Tamannaah Bhatia, renowned for her role in 'Baahubali', signed an agreement with Power Soaps Limited on October 7, 2008. The contract stipulated that she would promote their products exclusively until October 6, 2009. However, the actress later discovered that her images were still being used by the company even after the contract had expired. She claimed this unauthorized usage came to light in 2010 when she was engaged in discussions with another potential endorser.
Allegations of Unauthorized Image Usage
Tamannaah Bhatia alleged that the company utilized her photographs on soap wrappers manufactured in November 2010 and February 2011 without her consent. She asserted that this unauthorized exploitation of her image negatively impacted her ability to secure new endorsement opportunities, as it created confusion and potential conflicts with other brands.
Legal Notices and Compensation Claim
In response to the alleged infringement, legal notices were sent to Power Soaps Limited and J&D Communication Private Limited on January 18, 2011, and February 1, 2011. Tamannaah Bhatia stated that the responses received were unclear and unsatisfactory. Consequently, she filed a lawsuit seeking Rs 1 crore as compensation for the unauthorized use of her likeness and the resultant damages to her career prospects.
Court's Decision and Case Closure
Both the single judge and the division bench of the Madras High Court have now rejected her plea, with the latest ruling affirming the earlier dismissal. This decision effectively concludes the legal proceedings, leaving the matter resolved in favor of the previous order.
Tamannaah Bhatia's Recent Work
On the professional front, Tamannaah Bhatia was last seen in a special appearance in the film O Romeo, starring Shahid Kapoor and directed by Vishal Bhardwaj. She also played a full-fledged role in the 2025 supernatural thriller Odela 2. Upcoming projects include an action film titled Ranger, where she will star opposite Sidharth Malhotra.
