The Delhi High Court concluded hearings on Wednesday, December 24, in the high-stakes civil suit concerning the inheritance of the late industrialist Sunjay Kapur. The court has reserved its order on an interim injunction plea filed by Kapur's children, Samaira and Kiaan Raj Kapur, who are seeking a share of their father's estate, estimated to be worth a staggering ₹30,000 crore.
A Poignant Christmas Tribute on Social Media
On the same day as the court proceedings, their aunt, Bollywood actor Kareena Kapoor Khan, marked Christmas with a heartfelt social media post. She shared an Instagram story featuring her niece and nephew, Samaira and Kiaan, calling them "My Christmas Angels."
In the photograph, the two children are seen from behind, both wearing matching jerseys labelled "Aureus Polo." This was the polo team founded and captained by their late father, which won championships in India, the US, and the UK. Kareena also shared a picture of a Christmas tree adorned with an ornament reading "Christmas at the Pataudis."
The Core of the Legal Battle
The inheritance dispute erupted following Sunjay Kapur's sudden demise in June this year after he collapsed during a polo match. The legal suit, filed by his children from his first marriage to actor Karisma Kapoor, challenges the validity of a will allegedly written by Sunjay Kapur.
The plaintiffs have raised serious allegations, claiming the will may be "forged and fabricated" and that the signature on the document is not authentic. They have also made strong personal accusations against Priya Sachdev Kapur, Sunjay's wife at the time of his death, labelling her an "acute gambler" and comparing her to "Cinderella's stepmother."
Earlier Court Proceedings and Allegations
Earlier in November, the legal battle intensified with the Delhi High Court noting it did not want the case to become "melodramatic." During hearings, lawyers representing Karisma Kapoor claimed that her daughter Samaira's college fees had not been paid for two months.
Counsel for Priya Kapur countered this allegation, asserting that all expenses for the children had been covered by Priya and suggested the issue was being raised primarily to attract media attention. The court has now reserved its order, awaiting a decisive interim ruling in this complex and emotionally charged family dispute.
