The Playful Bribe That Extended Sholay's Magic
Long before audiences worldwide adored the electric chemistry between Veeru and Basanti in the 1975 blockbuster Sholay, Dharmendra had already developed deep feelings for Hema Malini in real life. During the famous revolver-training sequence, where Veeru manages to sneak an extended embrace while Jai (played by Amitabh Bachchan) watches with an amused expression, Dharmendra desperately wanted each moment with Hema to continue longer.
According to a popular behind-the-scenes story, the actor gave crew members Rs 20 each to deliberately ruin the shot. Every failed take provided another chance for him to hold Hema close. Reports indicate that he ultimately spent approximately Rs 2,000 throughout the shooting of this particular scene, all just to gain additional moments with the woman he deeply admired.
