Popular YouTube creator Dhruv Rathee has found himself in a heated social media confrontation with actor Ranvir Shorey after criticizing the violent content in the upcoming Bollywood film Dhurandhar. The controversy erupted when Rathee took to social media platform X to express his strong disapproval of the film's trailer.
The Initial Criticism That Sparked the Fire
Dhruv Rathee didn't hold back when he saw the trailer for Ranveer Singh-led Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar. In a strongly worded post on November 19, 2025, Rathee compared the extreme violence shown in the trailer to watching ISIS beheadings and called it entertainment of the worst kind.
He specifically pointed to the opening scene of the Dhurandhar trailer, which depicts a man being tortured with wires strung through multiple holes in his skin. Rathee accused director Aditya Dhar of crossing limits of cheapness in Bollywood and being blinded by lust for money.
The content creator didn't stop there. He directly challenged the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), questioning whether the board had bigger problems with people kissing on screen than with watching someone get skinned alive.
Netizens Expose Rathee's Past Double Standards
Social media users were quick to call out what they perceived as hypocrisy in Rathee's stance. Several users reminded him that he had previously created content praising Anurag Kashyap's Gangs of Wasseypur, another film known for its extreme violence.
Faced with this contradiction, Rathee made a surprising admission. He acknowledged that he was wrong in his earlier appreciation of violent films and stated that he didn't understand the impact such films have on society back when he celebrated Gangs of Wasseypur.
Ranvir Shorey Enters the Fray
Actor Ranvir Shorey couldn't stay silent after seeing Rathee's comments and jumped into the conversation with a sharp response. Shorey replied to Rathee saying, "Buddy, you're wrong most of the time. But I love how you've turned that into a career."
This triggered a back-and-forth exchange that quickly escalated into a full-blown Twitter war. Rathee fired back at Shorey with a personal dig, suggesting that the actor's career involved fake fights on Bigg Boss for livelihood.
Shorey responded with equal force, claiming that the fights in the Bigg Boss house were not half as fake as Rathee himself. The actor defended his decision to engage in the argument by stating that he felt compelled to respond because Rathee was sabotaging a film and filmmaker.
Public Reaction and Divided Opinions
The online community quickly took sides in the controversy. Many fans showed support for the Khosla Ka Ghosla actor, urging him to stop responding to Rathee. However, there were also numerous supporters of the YouTube creator who believed that Shorey was merely picking a fight to gain attention.
Despite the graphic violence in Dhurandhar's trailer being criticized by many viewers, the film remains scheduled for release on December 5, 2025. The ambitious project features an ensemble cast including Ranveer Singh, Sara Arjun, Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan, Akshaye Khanna, and Sanjay Dutt.
This incident highlights the ongoing debate about violence in Indian cinema and the role of social media influencers in shaping public opinion about artistic content. It also demonstrates how quickly online disagreements can escalate into personal attacks when creators and celebrities clash over creative differences.
