Bollywood superstar Ranveer Singh is preparing for his highly anticipated return to cinema with the upcoming action film Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar of Uri: The Surgical Strike fame. However, the project has found itself at the center of speculation regarding its inspiration, prompting an official clarification from the director.
Official Clarification on Film's Inspiration
Amid growing rumors that Dhurandhar might be based on the life of Indian Army officer Major Mohit Sharma, director Aditya Dhar took to social media platform X to set the record straight. The speculation began when Madhur Sharma, brother of the late Major, reacted to a viral post suggesting the film's connection to his brother's heroic life.
In his definitive statement, Dhar wrote: "Our film Dhurandhar is not based on the life of braveheart Major Mohit Sharma AC(P) SM. This is an official clarification." The director went further to assure that any future biopic on the war hero would be made with proper consent and consultation with the family.
Honoring a True Hero's Legacy
Dhar expressed his respect for the fallen soldier and his family, adding: "I assure you, if we do make a biopic on Mohit sir in the future, we will do it with full consent and in complete consultation with the family, and in a way that truly honors his sacrifice for the nation and the legacy it has left for all of us. Jai Hind."
Major Mohit Sharma was an officer of the Indian Army's elite 1st Para (Special Forces) unit who was posthumously honored with the Ashoka Chakra, the nation's highest peacetime gallantry award. His most notable act of bravery occurred on March 21, 2009, when he led a daring operation against heavily armed terrorists in the Hafruda forest in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara sector.
During the intense gun battle, Major Sharma displayed extraordinary courage by eliminating four terrorists and saving two fellow soldiers despite suffering multiple gunshot injuries himself.
