Dhurandhar: The Revenge Faces Overseas Premiere Delays Over Last-Minute Edits
As the clock ticks down to the highly anticipated premiere of director Aditya Dhar's 'Dhurandhar: The Revenge', starring Ranveer Singh in the lead role, the film has encountered a significant roadblock. According to widespread viral reports, the film's premiere screenings in overseas territories and other international markets may face delays due to last-minute edits and content delivery complications.
Content Delivery Issues Threaten North American Premieres
While there has been no official statement from theater chains or the film's production team, reports from industry portal Venky Box Office indicate that screenings in North America could be impacted today. The issue reportedly stems from the second half content not being sent to theaters on time, attributed to ongoing re-edits being conducted at the eleventh hour.
The portal elaborated that theaters equipped with electronic delivery systems might still manage to host premiere shows if the final files arrive promptly. However, locations relying on physical hard drives for content delivery face potential cancellations if the materials are not received within the next few hours, which appears increasingly likely given the current situation.
CBFC Certification and Runtime Variations
These reports of last-minute re-edits follow the recent viral circulation of the film's Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) report. Despite receiving an 'A' certification for adult audiences, the makers were instructed to implement four major changes from a list of twenty-one suggestions provided by the board. These modifications included toning down certain violent scenes, notably one depicting a beheading and kicking sequence.
It remains unclear whether these last-minute re-edits are directly connected to why the Indian theatrical version will be approximately six minutes shorter than the version distributed to international markets. As per available information, the version submitted to the CBFC had an initial runtime of roughly 3 hours and 51 minutes, with the board mandating additional cuts of about 1.3 minutes. Meanwhile, the overseas version is reported to have a longer runtime of approximately 3 hours and 55 minutes, suggesting possible content differences between regional releases.
Indian Release and Box Office Competition
Currently, the Hindi version of the film is expected to proceed with minimal disruption across Indian theaters. The film is also slated for release in several dubbed languages, including Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam, broadening its potential audience reach within the domestic market.
'Dhurandhar: The Revenge' is scheduled for its premiere today, March 18, with the official wide release set for Thursday, March 19. While the film is poised for an undisputed run in Indian markets, it will face notable competition at the North American box office, where it will contend with 'Project Hail Mary', a Hollywood science fiction film starring Ryan Gosling in the lead role.
It is crucial to emphasize that no official confirmation or statement has been issued by the film's producers or distributors regarding these reported delays and editing challenges. The entertainment industry and audiences alike await further updates as the premiere date approaches.
