In a surprising revelation that has caught the attention of Bollywood music fans, playback singer Divya Kumar has disclosed that he was originally the voice behind the popular track 'Tainu Ki Pata' from Aryan Khan's web series Ba***ds of Bollywood, only to be replaced by Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh in the final version.
The Replacement That Shook The Singer
During a recent interview with Digital Commentary, Kumar opened up about the emotional moment when he learned his recording would not be used in the final cut. Red Chillies Entertainment, Shah Rukh Khan's production company, had initially selected him for the song that features actor Manoj Pahwa's hilarious entry sequence.
"I had received a great opportunity from Shah Rukh Khan's Red Chillies Entertainment. It was for Aryan Khan's Ba***ds of Bollywood," the singer recalled. "I had originally sung Tainu Ki Pata, but later they replaced it with Diljit Dosanjh's voice."
An Unexpected Decision That Surprised Everyone
What happened next demonstrated Kumar's deep personal connection to the Bollywood superstar. The production company offered what he described as "an insane amount of money" as compensation for replacing his version with Dosanjh's recording.
In a move that surprised the Red Chillies team, Kumar refused to accept the substantial compensation. His reason was deeply personal and rooted in his longstanding admiration for Shah Rukh Khan.
"I rejected the money because it was Shah Rukh Khan's company. I had tears in my eyes when I was sitting in his office," the emotional singer revealed during the conversation.
The SRK Inspiration That Shaped His Career
Kumar's decision stemmed from years of looking up to the Bollywood icon as a source of motivation. He shared a touching anecdote about how SRK had been his guiding force during difficult times in his career.
"It was SRK who made me. I was inspired by him. Every time I was rejected from a show or competition, I would go outside Mannat and cry my heart out. He gave me the strength to move forward," Kumar explained.
He compared his devotion to Shah Rukh Khan to how people believe in divine energy, stating: "Like how others believe there's a divine energy guiding them — for me, that energy is SRK."
A Career Marked by Memorable Songs
Divya Kumar is no newcomer to the music industry. With nearly 15 years of experience, he has established himself as a versatile playback singer with several acclaimed tracks to his credit.
Some of his most recognized work includes:
- 'Shubharambh' from the film Kai Po Che
- 'Sun Saathiya' from ABCD 2
- 'Hawan Karenge' from the web series Asur
Despite his extensive body of work, his only opportunity to sing for his idol came in SRK's 2018 film Zero, where he performed 'Ishaqbaazi' alongside Sukhwinder Singh and Swagat Rathod. The song was composed by Ajay-Atul with lyrics by Irshad Kamil.
Meanwhile, the version of 'Tainu Ki Pata' featuring Diljit Dosanjh's voice continues to enjoy massive popularity, having amassed over 9.4 million views and counting since its release.
