Udaipur Files Producer Gets Rs 5 Crore Extortion Call from Khalistani Operative
Film Producer Gets Rs 5 Crore Khalistani Extortion Call

The producer of the controversial film 'Udaipur Files' has reported receiving a terrifying extortion call demanding Rs 5 crore from an individual claiming to be a Khalistani operative, according to police sources.

The Threatening Call and Voice Note

Amit Jani, the film producer at the center of this security scare, received the threatening communication on Tuesday evening around 10 pm. The call originated from an Armenian mobile number via WhatsApp, followed by a chilling voice note that left the producer shaken.

In the alleged voice note, which has become crucial evidence for investigators, the caller identifies himself as a Khalistani operative and directly references the extortion demand. The man is heard saying, "I asked you for Rs 5 crore. You didn't give. But now you have money to make a movie on Lawrence Bishnoi" - a clear reference to Jani's upcoming project.

Connection to Upcoming Film 'Kala Hiran'

According to the formal complaint filed at Malviya Nagar police station, Jani believes he's being targeted by what he describes as an 'anti-Bishnoi' gang specifically because of his forthcoming film 'Kala Hiran'.

The film traces events leading to gangster Lawrence Bishnoi's death threat against Bollywood superstar Salman Khan. This threat was connected to the actor's involvement in the black buck hunting case, an animal considered sacred by the Bishnoi community. The movie features Vijay Raaz playing the role of Kanhaiya Lal Teli, the tailor who was tragically killed in Udaipur in 2022.

Previous Security Concerns and Current Protection

This isn't the first time Jani has faced security threats. Following the release of Udaipur Files in July, the producer had received similar threatening communications, prompting the Ministry of Home Affairs to grant him Y category CRPF security cover.

In his current complaint, Jani provided detailed context about the incident: "I was returning back to my Noida home after visiting a temple in Chattarpur when I received a call from this number. He then sent me a voice note, saying that he will kill the CRPF personnel guarding me as well."

The producer also expressed his suspicion about the caller's possible connections, stating: "As per Haryana Police, I am on the target of Himanshu Bhau and Kaushal Chaudhary. I think this man is associated with them."

Police Response and Investigation

Law enforcement authorities have confirmed receiving Jani's formal complaint and have initiated an investigation into the matter. A police officer involved in the case stated that they are taking the threats seriously, given the producer's existing security status and the nature of the demands.

The Malviya Nagar police station will officially register a case as the investigation progresses. Authorities are examining the Armenian mobile number, the WhatsApp call records, and the voice note to identify the perpetrator and determine the credibility of the threats.

This incident highlights the ongoing security challenges faced by filmmakers working on sensitive subjects in India, particularly those touching on organized crime and religious extremism.
