Bollywood actor Imran Khan has officially confirmed his long-awaited return to the silver screen, sending a wave of excitement through his fanbase. After a hiatus of nearly a decade, the actor, who is also the nephew of superstar Aamir Khan, revealed that his comeback project is a collaboration with his Break Ke Baad director, Danish Aslam.
A Personal Project and a Natural Progression
While details were scarce initially, Imran Khan recently opened up about the film in an interview with Hindustan Times. He described the project as a personal and natural progression for the creative team behind the 2010 romantic comedy. "The movie is just like what the team of Break Ke Baad would be doing 15 years later in life," Khan explained. He emphasized that the film draws from their collective life experiences, noting, "Danish and I now have collective life experience. He's been married, I've been through a divorce. It's just the film we should make 15 years later."
The actor was clear that this is not a typical commercial venture but stems from a creative urge to tell a story with dear friends. He confirmed that the shooting is complete and the film is currently in the post-production stage. The release date will be finalized by the streaming platform that has acquired the project.
New Cast and a Happy Set
This new film brings a significant cast change. While the original Break Ke Baad starred Deepika Padukone opposite Imran, the comeback film will feature the talented Bhumi Pednekar in the lead female role. Actor Gurfateh Pirzada is also part of the cast.
Addressing the casting decision, Imran stated it was a collaborative and unanimous choice. "It was a co-creative decision, we all agreed on her and what she would bring to the film," he said about Bhumi. He also praised the on-set atmosphere, calling it "the happiest set I've ever been on" and credited both Bhumi and Gurfateh for bringing a positive vibe to the production.
Looking Back: A Decade Away from the Spotlight
Imran Khan's last theatrical release was the 2015 film Katti Batti, which co-starred Kangana Ranaut. Following this, he stepped away from the limelight for an extended period. His personal life made headlines when he and his wife, Avantika Malik, divorced in 2019 after eight years of marriage. The couple, who had been together for over 17 years, share a daughter. More recently, the actor confirmed his relationship with Lekha Washington, marking a new chapter in his personal life as he prepares for his professional return.
