Irrfan Khan's Wife Sutapa Sikdar Reveals They Never Celebrated Valentine's Day
Irrfan Khan's Wife: We Never Celebrated Valentine's Day

Sutapa Sikdar Opens Up About Irrfan Khan's View on Valentine's Day

In a heartfelt and candid social media post, Sutapa Sikdar, the wife of the late legendary actor Irrfan Khan, has shared intimate details about their personal life and perspectives. She revealed that throughout their marriage, they never celebrated Valentine's Day, a decision rooted in Irrfan's personal beliefs and their mutual choice.

A Personal Choice Against Commercial Celebrations

Sutapa explained that Irrfan Khan found the concept of Valentine's Day, which he perceived as largely driven by merchandise companies, to be "ridiculous". This sentiment was a key reason they abstained from the celebrations. "No post missing Irrfan on Valentine's Day!! We are from the generation when it was not so rampantly known," she wrote, highlighting their upbringing in a time before the day became widely commercialized.

She pointed out practical benefits of their stance, noting that it helped them save money and, humorously, kept them safe from potential harassment by so-called 'Sanskari' goons, though she clarified such elements were not prevalent during their youth. "It saved money and we were safe we were not to be harassed by the 'SANSKARI' goons. There were no Sanskari goons anyways at that time," Sutapa added, emphasizing that their decision was not out of fear but out of conscious choice.

Respecting Future Generations and a Unique Gift Suggestion

Despite their personal views, Sutapa expressed a modern and accepting attitude towards her children's potential choices. She stated that if her sons, Babil and Ayan, choose to celebrate Valentine's Day, she would fully respect their decision. "But in our home we respect choices so if my Sons want to celebrate let them do!" she penned, showcasing her supportive parenting style.

In a lighthearted twist, Sutapa suggested a unique and wholesome gift for the occasion: organic vegetables from their farm. She imagined Irrfan's reaction to this idea, quoting him as saying, "Arrey yaar kuch accha sa kha lenge banake" (Let's eat something nice cooked from them). She shared an anecdote where her son reacted with rolled eyes to her veggie suggestion, eventually leaving with green veggies, leading her to wish everyone a "Happy Kathal Day" in a playful nod to the day.

Background on Irrfan and Sutapa's Relationship

For those unfamiliar, Irrfan Khan and Sutapa Sikdar, both graduates of the National School of Drama (NSD), tied the knot on February 23, 1995. Their marriage was a partnership built on mutual respect and shared values, blossoming into a family with two sons, Babil and Ayan. Tragically, Irrfan Khan passed away in April 2020 at the age of 53 after a brave battle with neuroendocrine cancer, leaving behind a legacy in Indian cinema and a family that continues to honor his memory.

Sutapa's post not only offers a glimpse into their private life but also reflects on themes of personal freedom, commercialism, and familial bonds, resonating with fans who admired Irrfan's authenticity both on and off screen.
