Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor recently took a trip down memory lane, sharing a fascinating behind-the-scenes anecdote about the evergreen song Husn Hai Suhana from the 1995 film Coolie No. 1. The song, featuring Govinda and Karisma Kapoor, remains one of the most beloved dance numbers of the 1990s and continues to enjoy immense popularity among Bollywood fans.
The Goa Illusion Behind the Song
During an appearance on India's Best Dancer Season 5, Karisma opened up about the making of the song and revealed details that many fans may not know. She highlighted how cinema often creates visual magic that audiences rarely get to see behind the scenes. Although the film's story was set in Goa, the famous song sequence was actually filmed elsewhere.
Sharing the trivia, Karisma said, "So I tell you all an interesting story. I think yehi hai cinema ka kamaal aur yehi hai dance ka, India wala dance ka kamaal. I don't know agar aapko pata hai ki nahi. This film, the story is based in Goa. Lekin woh gaane mein, we are dancing over there, The Resort Hotel, Madh Island."
Karisma added, "Mujhe yaad hai David Dhawan mere paas aaye the aur kaha tha, ‘You know, yeh bahot hi achhe choreographer hain, yeh naye Ganesh Master hain.’ Woh bhi bahot shy feel kar rahe the aur main bhi bahot shy thi. Then he had to explain it to me and tell me, ‘Look, you are dancing with Govinda, and this is an item song.’"
A Song That Became a Timeless Favourite
Released as part of Coolie No. 1, Husn Hai Suhana quickly became a chartbuster and remains one of the defining songs of the decade. The energetic track showcased the infectious chemistry between Govinda and Karisma Kapoor, a pairing that went on to become one of Bollywood's most successful on-screen combinations.
The song was sung by Abhijeet Bhattacharya and Chandana Dixit, while the music was composed by Anand-Milind. The lyrics were penned by Sameer.
