From Siblings to Lovers: An Awkward Transition
Kit Harington, the renowned actor famous for his role as Jon Snow in the epic series Game of Thrones, has recently opened up about what he describes as an embarrassing moment during the filming of his new gothic horror movie 'The Dreadful'. The 38-year-old British actor found himself in a peculiar situation when he had to film a kissing scene with his former on-screen sister, Sophie Turner.
The height difference between the two actors created quite a challenge during the romantic scene. Harington revealed that he needed to stand on what the film industry commonly refers to as an "apple box" - a wooden platform used to adjust actors' heights - to properly kiss Turner, who stands approximately a foot taller than him.
The Game of Thrones Connection Made It Weirder
What made the situation particularly uncomfortable for both actors was their shared history. In the massively popular HBO drama Game of Thrones, Harington and Turner played siblings Jon Snow and Sansa Stark respectively. Having portrayed brother and sister for nearly a decade, transitioning to lovers on screen felt unnatural to both performers.
"It was slightly embarrassing, having to get on an apple box to kiss her because she's about a foot taller than me," Harington confessed during an interview with E! News. "But other than that, my dignity was pretty intact."
The actor expressed his initial discomfort when he first read the script. Turner herself had sent him the movie project, apparently not realizing the nature of their characters' relationship. "I was like, 'These guys, these are lovers, right?' I felt very odd about that," Harington recalled.
A Beautiful Friendship Rekindled
Despite the initial awkwardness, Harington emphasized how wonderful it was to work with Turner again. The 29-year-old actress, who has since become a mother and taken on various significant roles, shared a deep bond with Harington from their Game of Thrones days.
"It was a good chance to be with her again and work together," Harington shared warmly. "What was lovely is that we got on set together and our friendship completely ignited again. It felt like being with family. It really did."
The Dreadful is set in the 15th century during the Wars of the Roses, a historical period familiar to Game of Thrones fans as the inspiration for much of the series' political intrigue. The film follows the story of Anne (played by Turner) and her mother-in-law Morwen, who live on the outskirts of society when someone from their past unexpectedly re-enters their lives.
The film also features an impressive supporting cast including Marcia Gay Harden, Laurence O'Fuarain, and Jonathan Howard, promising a rich gothic horror experience for audiences.
Working with Hollywood Icons
In addition to discussing his experience with Turner, Harington also shared his thoughts on working with Hollywood veteran Mark Wahlberg in the action-comedy film 'The Family Plan 2'. The 38-year-old actor plays Aidan in the Apple TV+ Christmas movie and had nothing but praise for his 54-year-old co-star.
"It was gorgeous. I've seen his career and been like, 'That guy's extraordinary'," Harington gushed about Wahlberg. "How he maintained his career over the years, how he maintained himself and his professionalism, he's a real inspiration."
This revelation comes as both actors continue to expand their careers beyond their most famous roles, taking on diverse projects that challenge their acting abilities and push them in new creative directions. For Indian audiences who followed Game of Thrones passionately, this behind-the-scenes insight offers a fascinating glimpse into the ongoing careers of two beloved actors.
