KRK Remanded to Police Custody Until January 27 in Oshiwara Firing Case
A Bandra court in Mumbai has remanded controversial actor and self-proclaimed film critic Kamaal Rashid Khan, popularly known as KRK, to police custody until January 27 in connection with the Oshiwara firing incident. The decision came after the Oshiwara Police presented him before the court following his arrest earlier in the day.
Police Escort KRK to Station After Court Order
Following the court's directive, officials from the Oshiwara Police escorted Khan to the police station for further questioning. During the court proceedings, Khan described the firing as an unfortunate accident and maintained that he had no intention of harming anyone. He claimed the incident occurred while he was cleaning his licensed firearm at his residence.
Police Probe KRK's Role and Investigate Motive
The police informed the court that they are examining the real motive behind the incident and verifying the credibility of Khan's statement. Officials noted that the actor has been cooperating with the ongoing investigation, but emphasized that they are conducting a thorough probe to determine all circumstances surrounding the case.
Background of the Oshiwara Firing Incident
Earlier in the day, Mumbai Police arrested KRK after a firing incident in the Oshiwara area, where he was named as the main suspect. According to police statements, the actor allegedly fired two shots by mistake while cleaning his gun at home to check if it was functioning properly.
Details About KRK's Gun Licence and Firearm
Police officials revealed that Kamaal Rashid Khan had secured a gun licence and a firearm from Uttar Pradesh back in 2005. After obtaining the weapon, he brought it to Mumbai and kept the licensed gun at his city residence for nearly two decades.
Firearm Deposited During Model Code of Conduct Period
A few days before the incident, after the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) came into effect ahead of the Mumbai civic elections, KRK handed over his gun to the Versova Police Station as required by regulations. When the MCC period concluded, he retrieved the weapon from police custody.
Police stated that several days later, while cleaning the gun at his home, he allegedly fired two shots to verify if it was working properly. The bullets reportedly struck a tree on Lokhandwala Back Road initially.
Bullets Struck Nearby Building Due to Strong Winds
However, due to strong winds at the time, the bullets missed their intended target and instead hit the nearby Nalanda building in Oshiwara. Fortunately, no injuries were reported from the incident. Following the occurrence, Oshiwara Police registered a case and initiated a detailed investigation to determine the exact sequence of events.
Investigation Reveals Additional Details
According to investigative reports, the incident occurred on January 18 when two bullets struck a residential building in Oshiwara, Andheri. During their inquiry, officials recovered two bullets from the Nalanda Society—one from the building's second floor and another from the fourth floor.
Based on their findings and after questioning the actor extensively, police subsequently arrested Kamaal Rashid Khan in connection with the firing. The investigation continues as authorities work to establish all facts surrounding this unusual case involving a Bollywood personality and firearm discharge in a residential area.
