Mashhoor Amrohi's Brief Role in Dhurandhar 2 Ignites Online Frenzy with Nawaz Sharif Resemblance
Mashhoor Amrohi has recently captured widespread attention for his short yet remarkably impactful performance as Nawab Shafiq in the blockbuster film 'Dhurandhar: The Revenge', commonly referred to as Dhurandhar 2. Despite appearing in only a couple of scenes, his striking and uncanny resemblance to a character inspired by former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has triggered an explosive wave of memes and intense online discussions across social media platforms.
Who Exactly is Mashhoor Amrohi?
Born into a prestigious cinematic legacy, Mashhoor Amrohi is the grandson of the legendary filmmaker Kamal Amrohi. Despite his deep-rooted connections to Bollywood royalty, he has deliberately chosen to forge his career path away from the glaring spotlight, gradually and methodically building his reputation within the industry through perseverance and dedication.
Beyond acting, Mashhoor has extensively explored filmmaking, working diligently behind the camera as both a director and a writer. Over the years, he has appeared in notable projects such as 'War', 'Accused', and 'Freedom at Midnight', embracing diverse roles that have steadily honed his craft and versatility as an actor. While many of his earlier performances may have flown under the radar, they collectively contributed to shaping his understated yet powerful screen presence. Known for maintaining a low profile, Mashhoor has largely avoided mainstream attention—until this recent breakout moment catapulted him into the limelight.
Overwhelming Response to His Transformative Performance
Amrohi's recent portrayal in Dhurandhar: The Revenge has firmly placed him in the public eye, with the response proving overwhelmingly positive and even surprising the actor himself. In an exclusive interview with Mid-Day, Mashhoor candidly shared, "For me, the biggest compliment is that nobody believes it is me. Some are saying that it’s AI. I had not anticipated this kind of adulation. There are memes and pictures all over the internet." This widespread disbelief among viewers underscores just how convincingly authentic his transformation turned out to be.
Interestingly, Mashhoor does not naturally bear a resemblance to the political figure his character draws inspiration from. The vision for this role was conceived by director Aditya Dhar and casting director Mukesh Chhabra, who saw potential in him. Achieving the desired look required immense effort and precision, involving extensive makeup and prosthetic work.
Grueling Transformation Process Behind the Scenes
Recalling the meticulous process, Mashhoor revealed, "When we sat for the first make-up test, we didn’t quite achieve what the director wanted. We had to depict the [same] body weight, face, and ageing. Preetisheel went all out, I sat through more than eight hours of make-up daily for four days. For the weight, I had a bodysuit with a paunch." This dedication highlights the rigorous commitment involved in bringing the character to life, showcasing the collaborative efforts of the makeup and production teams.
Dhurandhar: The Revenge Achieves Monumental Box Office Success
Directed by Aditya Dhar, Dhurandhar: The Revenge has achieved staggering commercial success, raking in over Rs 519 crore at the box office within just five days of its release, including collections from paid previews. The film is widely expected to break existing records and set a new benchmark for Indian cinema. Featuring an ensemble cast including Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, R Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Rakesh Bedi, and Sara Arjun, the movie was released in theaters on March 19, 2026, and continues to dominate the entertainment landscape.
