Nagarjuna Sets Record Straight on Dhurandhar Casting Rumors
Since its theatrical release, Aditya Dhar's blockbuster film Dhurandhar has dominated conversations across the entertainment landscape. While Akshaye Khanna's chilling portrayal of the menacing Rehman Dakait catapulted him to overnight internet fame, persistent industry whispers suggested that the pivotal role was initially offered to South Indian superstar Nagarjuna, who allegedly declined the opportunity.
Now, Nagarjuna has directly addressed and definitively dismissed these widespread speculations. In a candid recent interview with Bollywood Hungama, the acclaimed actor clarified that he was never formally approached for the part that ultimately became a career-defining moment for Akshaye Khanna.
"Absolutely Not": Nagarjuna's Clear Denial
"Absolutely not. I was not offered the role, though I wish I was," Nagarjuna stated unequivocally. He went on to lavish praise on the cinematic achievement, adding, "Dhurandhar is a superb film... Really incredible direction by Aditya Dhar. I loved his earlier film Uri also! Superb acting by everybody in the film, and Akshaye Khanna was terrific... Looking forward to the sequel! Wishing them another blockbuster."
This clarification puts to rest months of circulating rumors that had suggested a different casting trajectory for one of the year's most talked-about cinematic characters.
Focus on Milestone 100th Film and Evolving Audience Expectations
Currently immersed in production for his landmark 100th film, Nagarjuna emphasized a deliberate, quality-focused approach to this significant project. "We are not rushing anything. There is no hurry to complete the film. We want it to be very special," he shared, highlighting the careful consideration being given to this career milestone.
The actor also reflected on the shifting landscape of Indian cinema, noting, "After Dhurandhar, it is clear that the audiences demand international standards of storytelling." This observation underscores the rising expectations among viewers for narrative sophistication and production quality that rivals global cinema.
Upcoming Projects for Both Stars
Nagarjuna's most recent Bollywood appearance was in the 2022 spectacle Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva, where he portrayed Anish Shetty, the wielder of the Nandi Āstra, alongside stars Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt. His next cinematic offering is scheduled for a January 15 release during the Sankranthi festival period.
Meanwhile, Akshaye Khanna is poised to reprise his iconic role in the highly anticipated sequel, Dhurandhar: The Revenge, slated for a March 19 release. Following this project, the actor's pipeline includes other notable films such as Mahakali and Ikka, indicating a busy and diverse schedule ahead.
The entertainment industry continues to watch closely as both actors navigate their respective career paths, with Nagarjuna's clarification adding an interesting footnote to the success story of Dhurandhar while highlighting the importance of accurate reporting in the rumor-driven world of film gossip.
