In a tragic loss for the Odia music and film industry, popular composer-singer Abhijit Majumdar passed away on Sunday at the age of 54. He was undergoing treatment at AIIMS Bhubaneswar, where hospital authorities confirmed his demise.

Details of the Demise

According to a bulletin from AIIMS Bhubaneswar, Abhijit Majumdar suffered a cardiac arrest at 7:43 am on January 25, 2026. Despite immediate resuscitation efforts following Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support protocols, he was clinically declared dead at 9:02 am.

Medical History and Treatment

Majumdar had been admitted to the hospital on September 4 last year with conditions including hypertension, hypothyroidism, and chronic liver disease. After prolonged intensive care, he was moved to a medicine ward on November 10 for ongoing care. However, he developed a fever on January 23, leading to refractory septic shock that did not respond to treatment, as stated by AIIMS.

Legacy in Odia Music

Abhijit Majumdar was a celebrated figure in Ollywood, composing music for numerous blockbuster Odia films and lending his voice to several hit songs. Often referred to as the Hit Machine of Ollywood, he crafted over 700 songs that became integral to weddings and cultural events in Odisha.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed deep sadness, calling Majumdar's death an irreparable loss to Odia music, cinema, and culture. Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Leader of the Opposition Naveen Patnaik also mourned his passing, highlighting his unique musical style and lasting impact on listeners.

Pradhan noted that Majumdar had carved a special place in the hearts of Odia music enthusiasts over decades, while Patnaik emphasized that his contributions would remain memorable.

According to his family, Majumdar's mortal remains will be taken to his home in Cuttack for the last rites. His untimely departure has left a void in the artiste fraternity, with many expressing grief on social media platforms.
