Offset Discharged from Hospital Following Florida Casino Shooting
Rapper Offset, a prominent member of the influential hip-hop trio Migos, has been released from the hospital after being shot earlier this week outside a Florida casino, according to a spokesperson's statement on Friday. The incident occurred on Monday night following a physical altercation at the Seminole Hard Rock casino in Hollywood, located just north of Miami.
Recovery Progress and Official Statements
On Tuesday, a representative confirmed that Offset was in stable condition, though his precise medical status remained undisclosed. Law enforcement officials clarified that the injuries sustained were not life-threatening. By Friday, the rapper's spokesperson announced, "Offset has been released from the hospital and he is up and walking." The statement continued, "We're incredibly grateful to the doctors, nurses, and the entire hospital staff who took such great care of him."
Offset personally addressed his fans and well-wishers through social media on Friday, posting: "Thank you to everyone who's checked in on me and shown me love! I'm good....but I'm planning to be better! I'm focused on my family, my recovery, and getting back to the music...realizing that life is made up of quiet wins and loud losses..." He concluded his message with a philosophical note: "Life's a gamble and I'm still playing to win."
Police Investigation and Detentions
Earlier this week, law enforcement officers detained two individuals in connection with the shooting incident. The Seminole Police Department in Florida reported that rapper Lil Tjay, whose legal name is Tione Jayden Merritt, was arrested related to the altercation that preceded the gunfire. He faces charges of disorderly conduct and operating a vehicle without a valid license.
The second person detained at the scene has not been formally charged as of Tuesday, according to police statements. Investigators are actively working to identify additional individuals who may have been involved in the altercation and subsequent shooting.
Offset's Career and Personal Background
Offset, born Kiari Kendrell Cephus, rose to fame as part of Migos, one of the most commercially successful hip-hop groups in history. The Atlanta-based trio is widely recognized for popularizing the rapid-fire triplet flow, a distinctive vocal delivery that significantly influenced the trap music genre.
Migos achieved multiple multiplatinum singles throughout their career, including:
- "Bad and Boujee," which reached number one on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 chart
- "Stir Fry"
- "Narcos"
The group released four full-length studio albums before their eventual disbandment. Tragically, more than three years ago, Offset's cousin Takeoff—another member of Migos—was fatally shot at a Houston bowling alley.
As a solo artist, Offset has developed a unique musical style characterized by melodic aggression and technical finesse, releasing three full-length solo albums. His personal life has also drawn significant media attention; he was previously married to rapper Cardi B after a secret wedding ceremony in Atlanta during September 2017. The couple shares three children together, though Cardi B announced in 2024 that she had filed for divorce.
