Priya Sachdev Moves Supreme Court in Sunjay Kapur's Rs 30,000 Crore Estate Battle
The legal battle over Sunjay Kapur's massive Rs 30,000 crore estate has taken a fresh turn. His widow Priya Sachdev Kapur has now approached the Supreme Court. She filed a plea seeking certified copies of the divorce documents between Sunjay Kapur and actor Karisma Kapoor.
Background of the High-Profile Divorce
Sunjay Kapur married Karisma Kapoor in 2003. Their divorce was finalized in 2016. After Kapur's sudden death in June 2025, Karisma's children approached the Delhi High Court. They alleged that Priya Sachdev forged their father's will.
The Supreme Court asked Karisma Kapoor to respond to Priya's plea on Friday. This development adds another layer to the already complex inheritance dispute.
Family Reactions and Accusations
Sunjay's sister Mandhira Kapur Smith publicly criticized Priya's move. She called it a deliberate attempt to distract from the main estate dispute.
"It's trying to divert what is going on," Mandhira told ANI. "If my brother wanted to share this with her, he would have shared it while they were married. I don't understand why she is playing all this when she has already showed this in court. Yes, it is to divert from reality."
Mandhira emphasized the private nature of divorce proceedings. "I think a divorce is confidential. They have children together. It's not anybody's business except the two people involved. It is none of her business," she added firmly.
Priya's Stated Reasons for Seeking Documents
Reports indicate Priya wants to verify specific details. She is particularly interested in financial settlements and child custody arrangements finalized between Sunjay and Karisma.
Sunjay and Karisma had two children together. Their daughter Samaira was born in 2005. Their son Kiaan arrived in 2011. After the 2016 divorce, Sunjay later married Priya Sachdev. They had a son named Azarias.
The Supreme Court's involvement marks a significant escalation in this high-stakes family conflict. Legal experts are watching closely as the case unfolds.
