Priyadarshan Stands by Rajpal Yadav in Cheque Bounce Case, Calls Him 'Innocent'

Renowned filmmaker Priyadarshan has publicly expressed his unwavering support for actor Rajpal Yadav following the latter's recent grant of interim bail in a significant cheque bounce case. The director, who has a long-standing professional relationship with Yadav spanning numerous successful films, described the actor as an "innocent" individual who became ensnared in what he termed a "trap."

Details of the Cheque Bounce Case and Interim Bail

Rajpal Yadav was recently granted interim bail in a cheque bounce case involving a substantial amount of Rs 9 crore. This legal matter stems from a loan the actor secured for his 2010 film Ata Pata Laapata. According to reports, Yadav borrowed Rs 5 crore from businessman Madhav Gopal Agrawal to finance the project. Over time, due to accrued interest and penalties, the total debt escalated to Rs 9 crore. As part of the legal proceedings, Yadav has deposited Rs 1.5 crore and has been granted interim relief until March 18, providing him temporary reprieve from the case.

Priyadarshan's Heartfelt Defense of Yadav

In an interview with ANI, Priyadarshan spoke candidly about his deep-rooted friendship with Rajpal Yadav, emphasizing the actor's genuine character. "My relationship with Rajpal, I have known him for many years, and I would say that he is the most innocent actor I have ever seen," the filmmaker stated. He elaborated that Yadav's trusting and naive nature might have inadvertently led him into this predicament.

Priyadarshan further remarked, "This guy was so innocent that he got into a trap, and for that, our relationship will never change. If it had been somebody else, so many people would not have come together to help him. There were so many people ready to help him because they understand how innocent this guy is. You can see the innocence in his face, and the same innocence is also in his heart."

Longstanding Professional Collaboration

The bond between Priyadarshan and Rajpal Yadav extends beyond personal friendship into a prolific professional partnership that has lasted over two decades. Yadav has been a key figure in several of Priyadarshan's hit comedies, contributing to their widespread popularity. Their collaborative works include beloved films such as:

  • Hungama
  • Garam Masala
  • Malamaal Weekly
  • Chup Chup Ke
  • Bhagam Bhaag
