Priyanka Chopra Returns to Indian Cinema with SS Rajamouli's Epic 'Varanasi'
Global superstar Priyanka Chopra is making a highly anticipated comeback to Indian films after a six-year hiatus, starring in SS Rajamouli's upcoming magnum opus, 'Varanasi'. The actress will portray the character of Mandakini in this much-awaited cinematic venture. However, her agreement to join the project came with a specific personal condition that has now been unveiled.
The Dance Demand That Sealed the Deal
In a recent interview with Cinema Blend, Priyanka Chopra opened up about her extended absence from Indian cinema and what motivated her return. The actress confessed that when Rajamouli approached her with the role, she had one non-negotiable request. "I have not done any Indian films in the last six years," Priyanka recalled. "So when he called me, and he was like, 'Oh, you know, this female character's really cool, and you have to do it,' I was like, 'I have one request: will you make me dance? Please, because I haven't danced for so long.'"
What followed exceeded her expectations. Priyanka humorously admitted, "Whoa, I should not have asked, because we be dancing. Oh my gosh, there's a lot. And poor Mahesh was like, 'It's because of you. Because of you, I have to do it too.'"
Mahesh Babu Confirms the 'Sensational' Dance Number
Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu, who was also present during the interview, enthusiastically confirmed the creation of this special dance sequence. He described the song as "sensational" and revealed that filming has already been completed. "It just keeps playing in our minds," Mahesh shared, emphasizing the track's memorable quality.
The actor further elaborated on Priyanka's ongoing enthusiasm for the number, noting that she keeps singing the track constantly. Mahesh reiterated, "The song was because she wanted to dance and... and he made her dance," confirming that Priyanka's condition directly resulted in this musical addition to the film.
