Punjabi Singer Inder Kaur Found Dead in Canal After Kidnapping

LUDHIANA: Five days after Punjabi singer Yashinder Kaur, 29, popularly known as Inder Kaur, was allegedly kidnapped at gunpoint from Ludhiana's Mundian Kalan area, her body was discovered from the Neelon Canal near village Kuba on Tuesday. The woman had left home in her Ford Figo car, which police recovered near the Neelon Canal in Rampur village. Blood stains were also found inside the vehicle.

Police Investigation and Arrests

The Jamalpur police had already lodged an FIR against the woman's male friend from Moga, Sukhwinder Singh alias Sukha, who currently resides in Canada, his father Pritam Singh, and friend Karamjeet Singh of village Bhaloor in Moga. Police stated that the Canada-based accused entered India via Nepal on April 29 and returned on May 13, the same day the woman was kidnapped. However, police have arrested Sukha's father Pritam Singh and friend Karamjeet Singh.

Family's Account

Jyotinder Singh, the brother of the Punjabi singer, told police that on May 13, his sister left home in her Ford Figo car at around 8:30 PM for grocery shopping but did not return. The family tried to contact her, but her mobile phone was switched off. Subsequently, the family searched for her and discovered that the accused Sukhwinder, along with his associates, kidnapped her at gunpoint from GTB Nagar in Mundian Kalan area.

Police Statement

Sub Inspector Dalvir Singh, SHO at Jamalpur police station, said, “The family had told police that Yashinder and Sukhwinder were in a relationship earlier, but they parted ways due to some unknown reason. As Yashinder had refused to marry Sukhwinder, the accused kidnapped her at gunpoint.” He added, “On Tuesday, the woman's body was fished out of the Neelon Canal near village Kuba. About one kilometer away from the spot, police also recovered the woman's car, which had blood stains. Initial probe suggests that the woman was murdered in the car and later her body was dumped into the canal.” The SHO further stated, “Police have obtained details that Sukhwinder traveled to India via Kathmandu, Nepal on April 29 and returned via the same route on May 13. Police have arrested Sukhwinder's father Pritam Singh and friend Karamjeet Singh.”
