Trinamool Congress candidate and acclaimed filmmaker Raj Chakraborty on Monday expressed deep sorrow and shock over the tragic death of popular Bengali actor Rahul Arunodoy Banerjee, describing the incident as "very shocking" and a significant loss for the film industry.

Initial Disbelief and Heartbreaking Confirmation

Chakraborty revealed that he initially dismissed the news as a false rumor when he first heard about the accident. "I felt very bad when I heard about Rahul. At first, my wife called and told me about the accident. I said it must be false, such rumors keep spreading. But later, when I started calling people in the industry, I found out the news was true," he stated emotionally.

The filmmaker emphasized that the entire Bengali film industry has been plunged into mourning since learning about the tragedy. "Since I heard it, our whole industry has been in great sadness because he was a very good and intelligent actor," Chakraborty added, highlighting Banerjee's talent and contribution to cinema.

Officials revealed that the two actors were allegedly performing a dance sequence in knee-deep water when they suddenly slipped into a deep ditch. Both were immediately rushed to Digha Hospital for emergency treatment; however, Rahul could not be saved despite medical efforts.

Sharing specific details of the incident, SP Balasore Pratyush Diwakar explained that Talsari police first received information from Digha police, after which further investigative action was initiated. Authorities noted that the shooting team had not obtained proper permission to film at the location, raising questions about safety protocols. Police from Talsari are now coordinating with Digha police to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragic accident.
