Rakesh Bedi Addresses Controversy Over Dhurandhar Character Resemblance

Veteran actor Rakesh Bedi, known for his portrayal of the cunning politician Jameel Jamali in the Dhurandhar franchise, has publicly responded to a brewing controversy. This comes after Pakistani politician Nabil Gabol reportedly claimed that the fictional character bears a striking resemblance to him. As Bedi gears up for the release of the highly anticipated sequel, Dhurandhar: The Revenge, the actor has firmly clarified that his role was never intended to be modeled on any specific real-life individual.

'I Didn't Portray Him at All,' Says Bedi on Resemblance Claims

In an exclusive interview, Rakesh Bedi dismissed the comparison between his character and Nabil Gabol, emphasizing the creative independence behind the role. "I didn't portray him at all. I don't understand why he is identifying himself with the character," Bedi stated. He elaborated that the look for Jameel Jamali was a purely artistic choice, developed without any reference to Gabol. "I simply adopted a particular look for the role. Now if someone feels that my appearance resembles him, what can I really do about it? It's not my fault," he added, highlighting the subjective nature of such perceptions.

Bedi acknowledged that the wig and styling might contribute to a perceived similarity, but he stressed that this was merely an interpretation by Gabol. "Perhaps because of the wig and styling he might feel there is a slight resemblance. That's his interpretation. But there isn't much we can do about that," the actor remarked, underscoring the disconnect between artistic creation and personal identification.

Jameel Jamali: A Blend of Multiple Politicians, Not One Individual

Delving deeper into the character's origins, Rakesh Bedi explained that Jameel Jamali was crafted as a composite figure, drawing inspiration from various Pakistani politicians rather than a single person. "As far as the writers, directors and makers are concerned, we never once thought about portraying Nabil Gabol specifically," he clarified. The actor detailed his process of blending traits from several political figures to build a nuanced portrayal.

"In fact, I created the character by blending traits from several Pakistani politicians — their speeches, their body language and aspects that suited the role," Bedi revealed. He adapted these elements to construct a fictional persona that serves the narrative of the Dhurandhar series. "I adapted those elements and then built the character from there. So, if Nabil Gabol alone feels the character represents him or chooses to see it that way, then that's really his own issue. I can't help it," he concluded, reinforcing the idea that the character is a work of fiction.

Bedi Comments on 'Toxic' Postponement and Upcoming Release

In addition to addressing the resemblance controversy, Rakesh Bedi also shared his thoughts on the postponement of Yash's film, Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups. Originally scheduled to clash with Dhurandhar: The Revenge at the box office on March 19, the makers of Toxic shifted its release to June 4, citing tensions in the Middle East.

Commenting on this development with a touch of humor, Bedi said, "Tension toh humare liye bhi hai Middle East main, par hum toh aa rahe hai," which translates to "The tension exists for us too in the Middle East, but we will still release our film." This lighthearted remark highlights the competitive yet resilient spirit of the film industry amidst global uncertainties.

Dhurandhar: The Revenge features an ensemble cast including Ranveer Singh, Arjun Rampal, Sara Arjun, Sanjay Dutt, and R Madhavan, alongside Rakesh Bedi. The film is written and directed by Aditya Dhar, promising a gripping continuation of the franchise. As the release date approaches, Bedi's clarifications aim to set the record straight, ensuring the focus remains on the cinematic experience rather than unfounded controversies.
