Ranbir Kapoor Reflects on Fatherhood and Breaking Generational Barriers
In a heartfelt revelation, Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor has candidly discussed his relationship with his late father, Rishi Kapoor, describing it as "distant" and marked by a "glass wall." Speaking as the new brand ambassador for a legacy jewellery brand, Kapoor emphasized his determination to forge a different, more open bond with his own daughter, Raha, born in 2022 to him and actress Alia Bhatt.
A Shift in Parenting Philosophy
Ranbir Kapoor shared his thoughts in a video on the YouTube channel Ranbir Kapoor Kingdom, where he expressed a desire to break away from the traditional parenting styles of earlier generations. He stated, "My father's relationship with me had a little bit of distance; it was not like a friendship, because that's how that generation was; there was a glass wall. But now, differently with my child, I want to break that glass wall. I want to be a friend to her, give her the wings to fly in whichever direction she wants." This statement highlights his commitment to fostering a supportive and nurturing environment for Raha, contrasting with the more reserved dynamic he experienced with his own father.
Alia Bhatt on Ranbir's Transformation
Alia Bhatt has previously spoken about the profound changes in Ranbir since Raha's birth. In a recent interview with Esquire India, she revealed, "He's far more sensitive than he lets on. He's shy, so he holds a lot back. But with her, he's incredibly expressive. His eyes, his face, everything lights up. He almost becomes a child himself." Bhatt also recounted how Ranbir took a month off work before Raha's arrival to support her at home, showcasing his dedication to family. She added, "He would go for a shoot and literally run home. He'd run straight into the room to see her. His love is very obvious. He can't help himself," underscoring his eagerness to spend time with their daughter.
Carrying Forward the Kapoor Legacy
Beyond fatherhood, Ranbir Kapoor reflected on the weight of the Kapoor family legacy in the film industry. He noted, "Once you know you have come from a family of achievers, the next generation doesn't succeed on past laurels. You have to take an individualistic approach, your own thought process, bringing something new to the table. If you are doing the same copy-paste of what your forefathers have done, somewhere there would be a saturation point." He emphasized the importance of intention and emotion in carrying forward a legacy, stating, "So I think it's the intention—you have to really carry a feeling, a feeling of legacy and emotion forward. If you have that in the true sense, then nothing can stop you." This perspective reveals his thoughtful approach to both his personal and professional life.
Upcoming Projects and Professional Endeavors
On the professional front, Ranbir Kapoor is preparing for several high-profile projects. He is set to star in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Love and War, alongside Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal. Additionally, he is gearing up for the release of Ramayana Part 1 and will soon begin filming for Animal Park. These ventures highlight his continued prominence in Bollywood, balancing his evolving role as a father with a busy career.
