Ravie Dubey's Secret 'Ramayana' Role: Wife Sargun Mehta Unaware for Months
The highly anticipated film 'Ramayana', directed by Nitesh Tiwari, is generating significant buzz as its teaser prepares for release today following special screenings in Los Angeles and New York. Amidst the excitement, an intriguing personal story has emerged about actor Ravie Dubey, who portrays Lakshman in the epic adaptation.
How Sargun Mehta Discovered Her Husband's Role
In a revealing podcast interview with Ranveer Allahbadia last year, Ravie Dubey disclosed that he kept his casting as Lakshman secret from his wife, actress Sargun Mehta, for an extended period. The couple maintains a strict boundary between their professional and personal lives, rarely discussing work matters at home.
"We don't really talk about work at home," Sargun Mehta explained during the podcast. "Just like he doesn't know what I'm doing until my projects are announced, I also don't find out about his work until it becomes public."
Sargun only learned about Ravie's significant role when someone congratulated her, to which she responded by stopping them, saying she wasn't supposed to know about the casting yet.
The Secretive Shoot and Curious Discovery
Even during the filming process, Ravie maintained his secrecy. When Sargun would inquire about his whereabouts, he would simply reply, "Kaam pe ja raha hoon" (I am going for work), without mentioning it was specifically for the 'Ramayana' shoot.
Sargun's curiosity eventually led her to ask their driver about the set atmosphere, but the driver misunderstood her question, thinking she was inquiring about co-star Ranbir Kapoor. Ravie found this particularly amusing when Sargun shared the story, noting, "Woh bhi mere bare mein nahi, Ranbir (Kapoor) ke bare mein" (That too not about me, but about Ranbir Kapoor).
Ranbir Kapoor on Portraying Lord Ram
Meanwhile, Ranbir Kapoor, who plays Lord Ram in the film, recently spoke about the significance of his role during the Los Angeles event. "Lord Ram has been the conscience keeper of billions of people around the globe for centuries," he stated. "He enlightens us about the triumph of the human spirit. He stands for compassion, courage, righteousness, and forgiveness, and is called Maryada Purushottam, which represents the ideal man."
Kapoor was recently spotted in Bandra with director Nitesh Tiwari and producer Namit Malhotra, further fueling anticipation for the project.
'Ramayana' Cast and Release Schedule
The star-studded cast of 'Ramayana' includes:
- Sai Pallavi as Sita
- Yash as Ravana
- Sunny Deol as Hanuman
- Ravie Dubey as Lakshman
- Arun Govil, Kunal Kapoor, Adinath Kothare, Sheeba Chaddha, and Indira Krishnan in supporting roles
The film is scheduled for release in two parts, with Part 1 arriving during Diwali 2026 and Part 2 following in Diwali 2027. The teaser release today on Hanuman Jayanti marks a significant milestone for the production, which has been shrouded in secrecy and high expectations.
Industry Perspectives on Work Privacy
The revelation about Ravie Dubey and Sargun Mehta's approach to work privacy raises interesting questions about how couples in the film industry manage their professional and personal boundaries. Some industry observers argue that maintaining such separation helps preserve relationship balance, while others believe greater openness fosters mutual support and understanding.
As the entertainment world eagerly awaits the 'Ramayana' teaser, this personal story about one of its stars adds a human dimension to the monumental production that aims to bring one of India's most cherished epics to the big screen with unprecedented scale and reverence.
