Russell Brand Denies New Allegations in Court Appearance
British actor and comedian Russell Brand has formally entered a plea of not guilty to two newly filed charges of rape and sexual assault. The plea was submitted at Southwark Crown Court in London, United Kingdom, during a recent hearing.
Details of the Latest Charges
The fresh offences are alleged to have occurred in the capital city during 2009. This marks the third time Brand has appeared in court to address sexual misconduct allegations, having previously pleaded not guilty on two separate occasions.
According to entertainment publication Variety, Brand first pleaded not guilty in May 2025 regarding incidents that reportedly took place between 1999 and 2005 involving four different women. Last month, he appeared again to address two additional charges on similar counts, maintaining his not guilty stance.
Legal Proceedings and Bail Status
Brand has been granted bail following each court appearance. A trial for the original charges is currently scheduled for June, with a hearing next month set to determine whether the new allegations will be added to that trial.
Brand's legal representative has argued that the former comedian requires additional time to properly address these serious charges.
Courtroom Appearance and Public Response
During the recent hearing, Brand was described as wearing a partially unbuttoned leopard print shirt with a silver cross around his neck. He spoke only to confirm his identity and enter his plea. As he arrived at the courthouse, photographers captured him holding a bible.
The allegations against Brand first gained significant public attention in 2023 when a joint investigation by The Sunday Times and Channel 4 reported that five women were accusing him of "rape, sexual assaults and emotional abuse" during the early 2010s.
Brand responded to these initial allegations through a YouTube video where he stated he "absolutely refutes" all claims made against him.
Brand's Career Evolution
Russell Brand rose to prominence as a television host and stand-up comedian before transitioning to film roles in productions such as 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall' and 'Get Him To The Greek'. In recent years, he has repositioned himself as an anti-establishment spiritual guru and commentator.
The legal proceedings continue to unfold as Brand maintains his innocence against all allegations while the judicial system determines the appropriate course for these serious charges.
