Kannada Star Sagar Puranik Expands to TV Production, Eyes North Karnataka Films
Sagar Puranik: From Acting to TV Production & Regional Films

Kannada Multifaceted Talent Sagar Puranik Ventures into Television Production

Kannada actor, director, writer, and producer Sagar Puranik, who recently captivated audiences with his compelling negative role in Second Case of Seetharam, is now embarking on a significant new chapter in his career by stepping into television as a producer. For someone who grew up immersed in the world of television sets, this strategic move feels like a natural and exciting extension of his diverse creative journey.

'Storytelling in Television Has a Unique Depth and Consistency'

Sagar Puranik, who is currently actively producing two television shows, offers insightful perspectives on the medium. "In the television industry, hundreds of dedicated professionals work tirelessly every single day, and the workflow maintains a remarkable consistency," he explains. He further elaborates on television's resilient position in the modern media landscape.

"Despite the significant rise and popularity of OTT platforms, traditional television continues to firmly hold its ground and command a massive audience," Sagar notes. "Web series typically operate with a limited number of episodes, but television soaps represent an extended, expansive form of storytelling that can authentically run into hundreds, or even thousands, of episodes. This extensive format provides creators with the invaluable space to explore characters, subplots, and complex narratives in genuine depth over time."

Reflecting on the cinematic arena, Sagar Puranik emphasizes the evolving demands of today's audience. "There is absolutely no guaranteed formula for success in cinema anymore. The contemporary audience is extremely aware, critically discerning, and highly selective. Even a genuinely good film may not find commercial success in the current climate—you absolutely have to strive to make a truly great one. Mediocrity simply does not survive in today's competitive market," asserts the multifaceted artist.

'A Mission to Showcase Stories and Talent from North Karnataka'

Parallel to his television endeavors, Sagar Puranik, who hails from Dharwad in North Karnataka, is passionately working on developing films deeply rooted in the cultural and social fabric of his hometown region. "More than 50% of the Kannada film industry's total box office revenue consistently comes from the audiences in North Karnataka. However, authentic representation and storytelling from this vibrant region remain surprisingly limited within mainstream cinema," he observes.

As a committed filmmaker, Sagar is determined to drive change. "There is an incredible reservoir of raw talent and powerfully compelling stories waiting to be told from North Karnataka. I have been diligently working on identifying and nurturing talented writers, directors, and actors specifically from this region. Very soon, I will be actively producing a slate of films authentically set and shot there, aiming to bring these narratives to the forefront," he reveals with clear vision.

'Direction is My First Love, But Acting is Beckoning Anew'

While Sagar Puranik thoroughly enjoys wearing multiple creative hats, directing remains his paramount passion. "Producing is immensely satisfying because you are instrumental in helping to bring compelling, good stories to life and managing the project's vision. But direction will always be my first and deepest love—the core of my artistic expression," he shares candidly.

Interestingly, acting has made a vigorous and welcome comeback in his dynamic career trajectory. "Following my recent performance in Second Case of Seetharam, I have been receiving a substantial influx of exciting acting offers," he shares enthusiastically. "It is a fantastic creative space to inhabit because writers and directors are now crafting complex, nuanced roles specifically for me. This year, alongside production and development work, I will be focusing significantly more energy on acting projects as well," Sagar Puranik concludes, outlining a busy and promising future across multiple entertainment platforms.
