Sehwag Shares Heartwarming Cricket Tale on Kapil Sharma's Show
Virender Sehwag recently appeared on The Great Indian Kapil Show alongside fellow cricket legends Yuvraj Singh and Mohammad Kaif. The episode featured entertaining stories from their playing days with the Indian cricket team.
Father-Son Cricket Bond Takes Center Stage
During the lively conversation, Sehwag turned the spotlight toward his teenage son Aryavir Sehwag. The young cricketer is already making a name for himself in domestic cricket circles.
Sehwag proudly discussed his son's promising cricket career. He revealed an interesting family challenge that captured everyone's attention.
The Ferrari Promise That Almost Came True
Sehwag set a special target for his sons. He promised to buy a Ferrari for any son who could break his personal Test record of 319 runs. This score represents the fastest triple century in Test cricket history.
Aryavir came remarkably close to achieving this feat during the 2024 Cooch Behar Trophy tournament. Playing for the Delhi U-19 team, he scored an impressive 297 runs in a single innings.
The young cricketer fell just 23 runs short of his father's record. Sehwag later shared this achievement on social media with a playful message. He wrote, "You miss the Ferrari by 23 runs."
Humorous Exchange With Kapil Sharma
Kapil Sharma asked if Aryavir requested a compromise. Did he ask for a three-wheeled Ferrari instead? Sehwag responded with his characteristic wit.
"Even a Ferrari with three wheels costs money," the former cricketer quipped. He clarified his original promise to his children.
Sehwag explained, "I have told them that if they score more than 319 runs anywhere, I will gift you a Ferrari. A toy Ferrari also counts. I didn't promise him the big Ferrari."
Sehwag's Unconventional Coaching Philosophy
The cricket legend also discussed his unique approach to coaching. He admitted never following coaches' advice during his international career.
"When I used to play cricket, I did not listen to any coach," Sehwag revealed. "Many coaches shared their thoughts on my stance, the way I grip my bat, and my head position. Main sunta sab ki tha par karta apni tha."
This translates to "I listened to all of them, but I charted my own course."
Now as a coach himself, Sehwag understands what players might be thinking. He said, "I know exactly what the player in front of me is thinking - 'he will bark a lot and then leave.'"
This insight explains why Sehwag never pursued formal coaching roles. He applies a different approach when coaching his own children.
"When I coach my kids, I just tell them your dad never used his feet. At least you should," Sehwag shared with a smile.
Aryavir's Cricket Journey Continues
Despite missing the Ferrari by 23 runs, Aryavir Sehwag continues to develop his cricket skills. His 297-run innings demonstrates significant talent and potential.
The father-son story highlights how cricket bonds families across generations in India. It also shows Sehwag's playful approach to motivating his children.
The episode provided cricket fans with rare insights into Sehwag's family life and coaching philosophy. It blended humor with heartfelt moments about cricket aspirations.
