Marvel star Simu Liu has offered a fascinating glimpse into the unique world created by Robert Downey Jr. on the sets of the upcoming mega-film, Avengers: Doomsday. The Shang-Chi actor described an elaborate and self-aware personal domain dubbed 'Downey World' by the cast and crew.

Welcome to Downey Land: A Marvel Within Marvel

In a recent interview with Collider, Simu Liu recounted his first invitation to Downey's exclusive area on the film's base camp. He revealed that Downey famously operates with a convoy of trailers, creating a separate zone that everyone affectionately called 'Downey Land' or 'Downey World'.

"I remember getting invited to Downey Land for the first time and just showing up in this tent," Liu said. He was met with an unexpected sight: beautiful Andy Warhol-esque artwork, but with all the characters replaced by images of Robert Downey Jr. "I mean, he’s so self-aware," Liu added, highlighting the actor's trademark humour.

Personal Chefs and Buffet-Style Lunches

The experience took an even more extravagant turn when it was time for lunch. Unaware of the full amenities, Liu had brought his own standard set lunch. Downey immediately corrected him, saying, "Oh, no, no, no. We don’t do that here."

Liu discovered that Downey Land came with its own dedicated culinary staff. "The chefs had come and laid out this full buffet," he recalled. The star-studded lunch left him in awe, thinking, "I cannot believe I’m having lunch with these people."

A Long-Standing Marvel Tradition

This revelation is not the first of its kind. Stories of Robert Downey Jr.'s generous and elaborate on-set hospitality have surfaced before. During the press tour for Captain America: Civil War, the cast was asked who had the biggest trailer.

Anthony Mackie (Falcon) instantly pointed at Downey, exclaiming, "He has five of them!" Actor Daniel Brühl, who plays Helmut Zemo, shared his own 'village' invitation story. After Downey asked if he had any allergies, Brühl was later summoned from his "humble trailer" to "Robert Downey’s village," a huge space with five trailers where he enjoyed a five-course meal.

Mackie summed it up, noting that getting an invite to Robert’s trailer for lunch was everyone's daily goal.

Avengers: Doomsday, where Robert Downey Jr. is set to portray the iconic villain Doctor Doom, is scheduled for release on December 18, 2026. The film promises to bring together the Marvel Cinematic Universe's biggest stars for another epic chapter.
